Australia 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey
The cause is the switch overheating and melting as there is NO relay on a Defender. The power runs up the steering column.

Fit a relay kit and the problem will be solved. Also the lights will be much brighter.

In the old days the switch was made from Bakerlite which resisted heat, but current switches appear to be some sort of Nylon which is useless.

On my Td5 only the side lights run direct, without a relay. The headlights run through a hi beam relay and a dim/dip relay.
