Scrap 15p Td5 disco commonality with Defender td5
A friend of mine has had his 03 disco td5 auto fail it’s mot due to the usual spectacular chassis rot. I have bought the whole disco off him and am intending to whip out the engine / ancillaries as a spare for my 2006 td5 plate 90 this weekend

What else should I be keeping from it other than the engine and transfer box as useful spares for the 90?

I have sold the headlights and engine auto ecu from it already (these two items alone have more than recouped the purchase price!) - is there anything else which is worth removing which will sell easily before I get it collected for scrap? I want shot of the rotting vehicle ASAP from my drive so don’t fancy removing large lumps of it other than the engine or anything which will hang around for ages!

Tail lights are another easy bit to remove that usually sell easily.

Most ECU's are worth money, ABS, Suspension ecu's etc

Speedo, switches and anything else you can remove easily from the dash are normally worth having too.

Worst case scenario if they don't sell just chuck them in the wheelie bin one day and you won't have wasted much time removing them from the car.

Exhaust downpipe
Battery
Alarm 10AS unit
Front diff
I'm not sure if the rear diffs are the same as 90/110 front (or 90 rear), could be the P38 type... if so I might be interested if you're selling it
Cruise control buttons off the steering wheel, ideal for someone retrofitting cruise to a defender

If the vehicle has a factory fitted difflock on the transfer case with the correct factory fitted transfer/difflock lever, which is possible on an '03, I would pay good money for the lever and cables.

Rear diff will fit a Defender if you swap the drive flange for a standard one. The headlamp washer pump and pipework is the same as was used on Defenders. The dash switches are the same as late TD5/Puma if you change the push button bezel thingy. Windo lift switches can be useful.

With all switches it is worth trying to get about 6" of the harness they plug into, if the harness is otherwise scrap.

Bulbs.

The window frames from the doors are a pain to remove but if they are in rust-free condition (unusual I know) are quite saleable.

There are lots of easily removed bits that will sell easily too - air con fan, ACE pump, air con compressor, stereo, dash switches, sub-woofer, the list goes on.

Instead of weighing it in why not stick it on eBay & set the reserve at the weigh in price? - axles, prop shafts, diffs, all sellable too if you want to break it yourself but also to someone who is looking for a breaker themselves.

Roof window motors are also expensive, You cannt buy them new anymore and all go defect because of water getting in. In Holland they are sold for 150 to 250 euro for the motor allone One plug and 3 screws.
Front and rear bumpers are also good to sell.

From experience that's usually a lot of hassle, you get time wasters who don't show up, or want to collect it 3 weeks tomorrow. Or they buy it expecting to drive it home. Or you get people saying they just want the doors, then complain if they don't look like new when they come to collect. And all the time there's a rot box of a Discovery on the drive.

I think Lotus_esprit_s1 has the right idea, strip off stuff that's easy to remove and sells quickly, then weigh in the rest.

That is exactly the reason why it is being weighed in ASAP!

Sadly no difflock on this one, no sunroofs either I don’t think (not really paid any attention!)

Thanks for advice, will get busy pulling bits off it this weekend.

Is the auto shifter and the cable assembly surplus to requirements?
I could find a use for it 😊

Did it have Cruise control?

I may be interested in the switchgear if so......?

The bits from the watts linkage are also fetching a few quid so folk can re bush them then swap straight over.

I really haven’t paid much attention to it other than the engine, I’ll take a look tomorrow, but I think it was a base model as it has black cotton seats and no sunroofs, I certainly haven’t noticed any cruise control.

Another good one that many overlook is the fuel filter housing if it hasn't gone the way of many others, cracked from the mounting bolts or porous Wink
