MY15 cross member warranty
I am a little dissapointed with how my cross member on my 90 is fading am I able to have it resprayed under warranty ?

trouble is if done under warranty you will get the same cr@p thin coat of paint

if it was mine I would paint it in something descent that will last

I was quoted £100 to spray the visible part of the cross member, not too bad I thought. I haven't done it yet because it doesn't need it, I keep it clean and/or oiled with WD40 or GT85 or polished. It's still mark free and once it does show signs of corrosion I'll get it sprayed.

munch90's advice is good for most corrosion work, I got a replacement front bumper but that was the same old crap and went rusty in a few months. Better to actually fix this type of problem with after market goodies.

Simonpuma90 - yes you should be able to claim it on warranty

I looked after mine from day one on my 90, regular application of ACF...however after a couple of years, it was looking a bit tatty. So I fired it for a warranty job, thinking:
- most LR dealers use external providers for body work, so a good specialist will do a better job than the original LR finish
- even if I get another couple of years out of it...and it doesn't cost me anything, then its worth it.

So it was done under warranty, by an external body shop, it looked good and lasted well and still looked good when I sold it 18mth later.

I try to keep mine in good nick with coatings of WD40, but when applying, the rag with which I apply it seems to end up with a fair bit of black residue on it. Aussie cars have rear exit exhaust.
So, d'ya think the residue would be road grime/exhaust residue etc, or is the WD40 actually removing paint,...which would of course be defeating the exercise?

when mine was a few days old , I gave it a light spray over with underseal with added waxoyl , no undercoat , just light sand off that was 7 years ago and not touched since and still looks as new

My rear cross member was resprayed a few months ago under LR extended warranty, as it started to fade at either end, it went out to an external body shop who performed a great job, and resprayed my NAS step to match Thumbs Up

Pickles, only can tell you that for any Dinitrol overspray, even if old, WD40 liquifies it easily and removes it. Now, I don't think WD40 will do any harm to the paint on the truck body, but the paint on the rear cross member which is a not glossy and more porous affair, I can well imagine that WD40 would remove some of it when using a rag.
Best suggestion is to get your rear cross member properly painted in a satin black paint, and this well before any hints of rust would appear. Satin black looks pretty inconspicuously standard, so most people won't even notice that the rear cross member was painted. My dealer's body shop did that years ago with the SVX without me even asking about it. Thumbs Up

Even on my 1 year old 90 it was looking dull. I considered spraying it in Santori Black to match the roof/arches but in the end fitted a chequer plate. Looks so much better.

Mine came from Brookwells. Brand: DDS Part No:LR638B

Fitting is a bit of work if you have a tow bar or NAS step as it has no pre-drilled holes behind the actual cross member bolt holes.

As an aside my OEM fold down step is rusty as hell! I really wanted a NAS step but have a Nakeemunchee (why can I never remember how to spell that brand name) wheel swing arm so that idea is dead.
