Gywn Lewis do a full kit inc HD steering bars. Job isnt to hard to do, takes a little time to adjust tho. Be sure to have an angle grinder and some cold chisles handy just incase the actual drop arm wont come off. Mine didnt! Be careful if you do cut not to damage the splines.
Well worth while upgrade, much "tighter" steering. |

I do this upgrade to track rod end instead of drop arm ball joint to all my defenders when the ball joint first needs replacing. Makes future maint so much easier. You can use std disco drag link, you ring hedge to use the gywn Lewis one. Having said that I do. Cheers

I've done the same on the 90 and very happy with it. Never liked the drop arm ball joint, it's a PITA to change and one less part to keep as spares. I had a disco drop arm in the shed so purchased the longer drag link and damper bracket from Gwyn then a couple of new TREs, there are instructions on his website about setting it up. I'll be doing the same to the 110 soon. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

I can see the benefit of stiffer track+drag bars, but how does the attachment method of the damper to the link make a difference? Not trolling- I just cannot see what difference this part would make? Is anyone running uprated bars with the standard steering box arm?
Edit; the disco arm looks a little more robust and ‘chunkier’, perhaps a factor? 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2 |

All three of my defenders have HD steering arms on the standard drop arm set up. With the correct installation and removal tools including the press to hold the joint together when fitting the circlip the ball joint is a doddle to change.
I swapped to the Hd steering arms when I noticed some play in the threads of the drag link balljoint despite the clamp being tight; they just seem so much more substantial. |
