Thanks for the fast reply
The link seems to say that due to the alarm system there is always a residual current in the lights. (I would presume this is part of the alarm that activates if the doors are opened) and it is because the LED's are more sensitive that they glow. From this can assume that even a standard bulb will be drawing the same residual current which I would think is neglible with regards to battery drain? Does this also mean that if the interior lights are switched off at the light that this particular part of the alarm system will not operate? Once again thanks for the useful info. |

The lights are in a circuit with a permanent live. The only way of bypassing this is to remove the fuse or disconnect the battery (same for the alarm - which is why it has a separate battery backup).
Edit: I think I got the wrong end of the stick. What you’re saying is that even with the switch open the lights are still on. Must be a residual current as you say. Last edited by Doc P on 12th Feb 2018 4:18pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I bought these festoons off eBay "C5W CAR BULB LED ERROR FREE CANBUS COB XENON WHITE FESTOON NUMBER PLATE 36mm" they apparently have a "Built-in resistor to prevent dashboard errors & repeat flickering. Such cars require additional load resistors to ensure normal working bulbs."
Been using for nearly two years with no problems. Hi Dave,
Has someone also fitted a third interior light in your Defender? My 110 SW originally had 2 roof lights. I swapped to LED bulbs, with the same faint glow you have, but this did not light the middle row very well. So I fitted a third standard light over the middle seats, piggy backed onto the rear rear light wires. Three LED lights works great, and it now shines into the front foot wells, to help fitting pedal security devices in the dark. |

Hi DSC
Yes 3 lights. I didnt realise the one over the rear seat was an addition. As you say they are great and as you I only use the front one to fix my handbrake and front pedal security devices and now have this set on automatic when the door is opened. The rear seat and rear load area I manually turn lights on as I am a little uneasy about leaving all 3 lights on 'dim' mode. I am going to fit a manual switch by the back door for the rear load area light |
