Have you checked the hoses and connectors?
There are Ali alternatives but downside is not so easy to check fluid levels. I think an alternative is Alisport but donβt quote me on that. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

Was your old header tank black or white? I heard the black ones were prone to splitting along the seam but the white ones were not.
Alisport appear to make tanks with viewing gauges built in. Not cheap but very smart ![]() 1989 300Tdi 90 Soft top 1992 200Tdi 90 Truck cab with Land Cruiser axles |

mine is black, i have had a quick look at hoses and they seem fine, water was coming from under header tank, fingers were wet when i pushed them under tank,
it also seems to have had some kind of black sealant smeared around the equator of the bottle where the two pieces join? dont mind having to open tank cap on ali one as mine is black and have to do that anyways, is this a common problem? |

Harry-o "Alisport appear to make tanks with viewing gauges built in. Not cheap but very smart".
Oh yes, I remember now forgot about that. I just realised that this was for a TDi too, I was thinking Puma at first. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

I had an Alisport header-tank but after a couple of years replaced if for my original (white plastic) one.
No real reason but it didn't do anything that the OE one could not do and I prefer the standard look (even my silicon hoses are black). ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

An expensive solution to a known problem, the black tanks are prone to splitting, hence LRs change to the white material for the tank.
The Allisport item is very shiny though π Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

Correct. The black tanks were changed for the white ones due to a bout of splitting around the middle seam. Never seen a white one split in umpteen years, right up to when the export Tdis were discontinued in 2006. If you want to replace part of the cooling system with something shiny that has a real function, get rid of the plastic bungs in the thermostat housing and the top of the rad and put metal ones in. |

If you want some really bling ones https://www.flatdoguk.com/x-cap-radiator-cap-red~1433 The brass ones are just as functional, but the X-Cap can be removed with a 27mm wheelspanner or a large screwdriver, which may appeal to the Bear Grylls within you, if you maintain it's essential to be able to do a coolant change in the middle of nowhere ![]() |
