The nearest pub is a way away IIRC (5km...a bit far to walk for a pint of milk!), as is the nearest shop - best to be as self-contained as possible
The Co-Op in Newtonmore is open 0700-10pm every day... ~4 miles away I'll probably bring my bike, so I can cycle there and back pretty quick (20 min each way) There's also the village store in Laggan (as featured in the TV show "Monarch of the Glen"), maybe slightly further Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Hi,
The Nearest Pub, Shop and Petrol Station are in Newtonmore (10 minute drive), sadly Laggan Stores closed some time ago- in fact it is presently for sale! Best Regards Chris |

I remember the fun in the car park of the supermarket last year
After we wrapped up the drive on sat evening and headed for supplies there , the car park looked like it had been used as a pit stop for the Camel Trophy Then back to camp to open a cool beer and get the BBQ lit Looking forward to the same again G My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years. |

I’ll be brewing a pile of IPAs and Porters... so my 110 can be the pub.
Also we need to film drone footage like this... https://instagram.com/p/BfrSiXmnPgH/ |

Thinking ahead (and finding more ways to spend pennies) what modifications have people felt beneficial to complete in respect to this trip.
I'm thinking in terms of Diff guards (plan to do this once they have the oil changed in them in Mar), Steering guard. I already have a decent tool kit and compressor from a previous trip mounted in a barebox on the rear wheel arch and a foxwing for when we camp. Anybody able to share thoughts and suggestion on what is worth doing (or what isn't) Thanks Keith |

Keith
All I am doing in prep for this trip is a service & a fluid change & checking my tyre pressures There is very little that I would consider a difficult obstacle, needing real rock crawling protection Mind, having said that , I never really thought about what was in the river as I was driving against the flow G My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years. |

Mine's standard...even slightly softer rear springs. hopefully OK
She'll be fully serviced before the off. I have been planning an Ashcroft ATB, but unlikely I'll manage to do that before the event... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Many of the folks at the last outing had standard running gear etc
Plenty of cool expedition set ups, but no real need for 4” lifts , 35” tyres , winches etc Jim Moore (a member here) rocked up in an almost new & standard Landmark edition and had no bothers whatsoever G My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years. |

Standard vehicles are fine- please make sure you have adequate front and rear recovery points though. Also if you have a rear towing bracket that hangs very low then I recommend that you either raise it or remove it.
I would recommend all terrain tyres if possible. We did have a couple of vehicles in road tyres last time- there are some tracks that can become very very slippery if we have rain- those of you who were with us last time will no doubt remember how greasy some of the tracks became after that cloud burst last time! Both myself and Ian will have recovery gear with us so don't panic if you don't have any. My 110 is winch equipped, as are the majority of Ian's vehicles but its highly unlikely that we will be needing them- unless folk are feeling particularly brave/adventurous! Any other queries please feel free to add them here or PM me. Chris |
