Galvanised Bulkhead Options
The bulkhead on my 90 has started to go on the top corners.

About 6 years ago I replaced the N/S footwell and only last year I replaced the O/S footwell.

At the moment the bulkhead as a nice 5p piece sized hole and rust bubbles next to the vents.

I'm trying to weigh up the options, but need a bit of input from you chaps.

Option 1 - Buy a new galvanised bulkhead (Suppliers???)

Option 2 - Buy a secondhand bulkhead (repair if needed) and galvanise it myself (then sell my original one)

Option 3 - Repair my bulkhead and have it galvanised

Option 2 seems to be the most cost/time effective at this stage.

Anyone had to do this recently? Thoughts?

bought some parts from Matt before - seems a genuine bloke; does a few Chassis swaps - there's a member on here who has had his done (cobra_mark) - so could advise further - Although I think he had to sell his Defender in the end. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50322....storations

Small outfit; and now offers some bulkheads. Not the cheapest i've seen; but also offer a fitting service, so likely fitted them to customer vehicles so could also offer some advice

There's a company called Alpine Restorations offering galv bulks heads. I follow him on FB as he does some nice work but have never used them so not really a recommendation just a lead. He will also do the swap if you wanted. James

That would be the last place to take it to,

Not unless you don’t want to see it again!.... Shocked

I’ve used Meadway, now J.A, all good, although they are getting fussy about taking on LR parts,
Not sure about the midlands dept, but at Eastleigh they put the prices up due to people being way too fussy!

Instead of being done by weight, they started charging per part. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

Don't like to use this platform to run people/businesses down but ^^^ he's absolutely right.

Google them and you'll see all you need to know.

Use your own BH and do the leg work yourself. 2007 90 Puma - Love it - Best car I have ever owned.

I had mine done by Ashtree as at the time I was relitivly local and was in no rush for it, comms were hit and miss and the quality is ok but I would look elsewhere next time. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

i would repair the one you have, quicker cheaper and you can try and get it done locally as well.

not a fan of Ashtree either ,very expensive slow service poors comms and as for the repair work, hmmm

did it refit the car it s came of? nope.

did they drill and retap anything.nope

value for money nope.

google is you friend here.

whilst galv is popular its hard to get a good paint finish and if we did one again i would have it repaired and dipped and painted locally.

Thanks everyone!

Looks like I'll be repairing mine or finding a decent used one to repair and dip.

Which is good news, as I'm a tight Northerner Laughing

I used East Anglian Galvanising (Wedge) in Sawtry near Peterborough.
Good service and remarkably cheap, I have been using them for about 9-years now.

When you say remarkably cheap, ...how much did it cost to have the bulkhead to dipped?
