can SVX grille be painted sucessfully ?
Hi, well I'm still looking for a decent 110 SW but up to now I have been constantly frustrated by the poorly maintained, badly serviced rubbish on sale at LR dealers. What really grates is the dealers attitude that all Defenders are supposed to be leaky, clonky and rattly. Anyway, I have just come accross this 2010 SVX SW with 9k which at least, at that mileage, will not have had much chance for problems to have developed unchecked. Up to now I have been restricted to pre Jul 08 as our road tax after that date is based on CO2 and the Defender comes in at a whopping € 2100 a year for a bloody tax disc !( BUT if I give up smoking I'll save more than that !) And I plan to keep the car forever. What I like about the SVX is the interior which is fantastic. Not a big fan of the black exterior but its ok - the big issue is that silver grille. No matter how I look at it I can't banish the crack dealer/rapper/pimpin blingy image it gives the car. Then I had an idea. If it could be painted,say, Brunel ,it would tone things down a bit. I check this site out every day and its been an absolute godsend in the sense that it has stopped me walking into a couple of money pits but I do feel guilty for not actually owning one yet. One day ! Does anybody know if this paint job could be done properly without peeling after a couple of years ? Or do I just wear lots of gold ?

oops sorry don't know what happened there MrFlips but many thanks - grille looks awesome in black so I'll see if I can get the dealer to sort something out as a closer when I have a look on Friday best regards

I wonder how easy it would be simply to swap back to normal. Normal lights too. You'd probably make a profit by buying a new normal one and selling the SVX one on fleaBay. The SVX one is transformed when painted black though. In silver I don't much like it either.

get it done professionally as it will need a plastisizer based paint or it will flake off in no time 2.4 90 XS

The SVX one is transformed when painted black though. In silver I don't much like it either.

I would also like to paint an SVX front grill and headlight surrounds in matching white color. My question is how do you go about sourcing the matching paint. I spoke to our dealer in Costa Rica and they do not supply paint or paint any items.
Also, any additional suggestions on painting would be appreciated.

CR - that was ages ago. I made an appointment to check it out but someone paid up and drove it away from under my nose ! It sure was a bargain at € 43k but events have moved on since thanks to the vrt thing and the likelihood of MY12 emitting sub 224g CO2 (confirmed by Bradleys in Galway). Hate sitting on the fence but it makes sense as I really want to buy new and lavish it with Zagato-esque care

Hi Landy Dubai,

What headlamp guards are those?

Did you have to modify them to make them fit over the SVX Headlamp surrounds?

I wanted to get some for my SVX, but was worried about the fit.
