Taking the Defender badge off will increase the value, in my opinion, it's one less job I'd do anyway.
I always thought the badges were a bit 'halfords'. It's obviously a Defender....no need for the label. |

On a 10 year old car I doubt replacing a £10 badge is going to make much difference either way....

Car shouldn't de value at all as you can just replace the original badges if necessary. As for fading paint, I doubt it on a 58 plate and a bit of polish would sort it out anyway. The paint lifting is possible but very unlikely if it's on its original paint. It sounds like your mate doesn't want the job to me. Ray

The beauty with owning a defender is you can do what ever you want to reflect your own personnel preference.
The early defenders hand the word "defender" on the grill; later "Land Rover" on the bonnet and eventually "Defender" and many different colours. Easy to remove; wont de-value - if a future new owner didn't like the exact style - they'd easy see through the badges as its an easy fix. To remove lettering a hair dryier helps; and to reomve any old glue or foam; WD40 to soak a little and with your thumb and a soft cloth eventually you get all traces removed without any paint damage. You shouldn't see any fading of the paint - if you do then just use some polish. You'd beadle to do all this yourself without any special tools. Use masking tape to help you work out the correct position before you apply. Just make sure the new badges use the 3M backing foam adhesive stuff as this is the best. Take your time - you'll be really satisfied once done |

There will be paint fade there, I'd guarantee it but you'd hardly see really.
Removal use dental floss carefully to cut thought the adhesive and a toffe wheel to remove the rememants of the adhesive. Possibly with some Isopropyl alcohol to soften the adhesive also. I wouldn't recommend pulling them off at all. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
