3 pages on Titians and no mention of these spare tyres. I am disappointed.

Such a tricky decision when, as you say, the only way to really find out if a tyre is right for you is to spend a shed load of cash on them!
I've been having the same debate lately as my Discovery 2 needs tyres this year. I need to replace my BFG AT KOs. I am on a mission to minimise noise at motorway speed to make journeys more comfortable for my wife and children, so the Cooper AT3 appeals, but due to the lack of strong side walls I'm drawn to the ST Maxx and new BFG KO2. Road noise, versus price, versus resistance to cuts and punctures off road. Very tricky. I look forward to the verdict, especially for noise levels on the motorway (around 65mph ) Good luck! Click image to enlarge Ohhh Don't they look pretty! Very initial thoughts are less rolling resistance, Much quieter road noise at a guess 2 if not three 3DB I must admit the wranglers made a fair din and these may not be silent they sure are much less intrusive. The shoulder lugs are more open than it looks like in the internet pictures and I imagine that in the rough they are going to work well. I have topped up the tank and reset the trip I will see what MPG difference there is too. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest |

They certainly do look good!! Any full body shots?
It's difficult with tyres as you're comparing old worn tyres with new. I know I was surprised when i changed from worn conti's to KO2's how much quieter they were and lighter steering. Be interesting to hear how they perform over time under different conditions. Hi Devon-Rover,
Any further thoughts on the Coopers? I'm about to buy some new boots and my choice has come down to the same pair... Hi datcullen.
So far is about 1000 miles on the new boots and I still like them they have done some testing miles. So far from boring tarmac to snow and some mud. Without Sounding too over the top I'm really liking them. The first 200 ish miles they did feel a little 'floaty' and after this time they now feel really nice and secure in the corners and handle well. Road noise is little and not noticeable unless you try and I'm in a poverty spec vehicle with no carpets. Standing water they are good and less prone to aquaplaning than the wrangler and the old AT KO. On a wet road with rain falling they felt stable at motorway speeds. In the snow it was a great with snow covered slush handling fine at medium speeds and climbing through the slightly deeper stuff they held traction nicely. In the mud aired down to 12 - 17 range gave the sidewall tread time to shine and they were gripping well. Not going to rival a full mud but it was good for something civilised on the road. even at 25 - 30 they were behaving well and I never felt it was out of control. The mud was clay based and they cleared well and never really clagged up and they seem to be excellent in not retaining stones something the wrangler had a habit of doing. Thanks for a such an in-depth review Devon-Rover
I was favouring the Coopers having had some years ago on my TD5. Sounds like these will suit my combination of uses perfectly: road, stony / loose off-road tracks and snow with just a bit of occasional mud. Thanks again. Hmm - help please!
I've read every tyre / wheel thread on here and had settled on Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx in 265/75/R16 on 16 x 8 Tuff torque ET0 modulars but that size St Maxx seem to be out of stock everywhere with no due date to come back in... So should I go for: 235/85/16 245/75/16 and should these be on 16 x 7 rather than 16 x 8? As said below I do 75% road driving year round so often in rain including long cross Europe drives fully loaded 25% off-road in Europe which is mostly rocky / stony / loose shale tracks which can really eat tyres plus some snowy stuff. Very occasional mud. Or another tyre which has the same balance of characteristics that the ST Maxx has...? Both 245/75 and 265/70 are a lot smaller than the 265/75 that you started at and will affect your gearing and speedo reading. The only one with the same radius is the 235/85. Darren

Hopefully this will help. After about 6 months of pondering and internet research I had narrowed down 2 tyres to replace my BFG KO all terrains, either the ST Maxx or BFG KO2. I have heard excellent reviews about both. In the end there was little to separate them according to my research. Coopers were about £60 - 100 cheaper for a set of 5, but I had read a few reports of people struggling to get the ST Maxx correctly balanced when fitted (although I'm sure most people have had no issues in this regard). I prefer the look of the Coopers but BFG is a known brand for me and one that I trust. In the end I couldn't find Coopers in the size I wanted so I had KO2s fitted last week. I've done about 300 miles this weekend and am very happy so far. In truth I suspect there is not much difference between the 2, except price. As I currently drive a Disco 2, the size is 245/75/16.
