RAVE is the digital parts and workshop manual.

RAVE - LR service manual - it has all - mechanical part, electrical schmematics and description of the electrical circuits. There are few variants - from RRC to TD5 Defender. Not older cars and not newer. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufĂnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

I checked mine this morning.
Track 1 0.4 V to 4.5V
Track 2 4.5 V to 0.4V
Track 3 4.5 V to 0.4V
Throttje pedal power 4.5V

The first numbes are no throttle and the second full throttle. Roel

Hi Roel

Thats really very interesting .... are you reading these values with a multimeter attached to the connector or from a Hawkeye or such ??

I got 0 to 10v on the Driver demand supply rather than the 4.5 you have ....

I wounder whats happening there ....

Morning Martin. I too also have a similar set of figures to Roel. Pretty sure that the pedal is only meant to have a 0-5v feed, so a feed of 10v is way too much...

Hummm ... My reading is from a Hawkeye .... Are you guys reading with a multimeter or a diagnosis box ??

I think I'll try another defender and see what readings I get there !

Cheers guys TD5 90 in Hertfordshire

Via Nanocom for me.

Workshop manual - http://workshop-manuals.com/landrover/defendertd5/engine_management_system/sensor_throttle_position_(tp)_up_to_vin_607224/

States 5v input. Some reason you are getting double the voltage.

That seems to suggest that there is a short to another earth/live going on... Regardless that would definitely confuse the ECU as it is expecting a value of 0-5v and it is getting twice that. According to that page any of those issues will force the engine only to idle no more.

So I agree completely with your diagnosis ..... but ....

when the Defender is running normally on the road the voltage varies between 0 and 10v

When I get the engine light on and the lack of throttle it's stuck on 0v

really wierd

It's off having some stuff done to it for the next two weeks, I can check with my Hawkeye on another Defender this afternoon but short of that I'm going to have to wait till it's back with me.

The manual link is excellent - Handn't seen that yet .... RAVE well I had that already Smile just did not realise it was called that - Doh TD5 90 in Hertfordshire

Ok I think you may have potentially two problems here. The first is that you have unsanctioned voltage powering your throttle pedal and the second is that you may have damage to the components of the potentiometer associated with running higher voltages.

When you get your vehicle back check the wiring again for any chaffing, meticulously go over each vehicle earth point (clean and refit) and for belts and braces take the throttle out and clean it (contact cleaner and work the pedal to dislodge any dust bunnies). That 10v must be coming from somewhere, it is not normal.

Actually whilst the pedal is out it would be a good idea to get your multimeter on it and test each of the three tracks through their entire movement pre and post clean.

Assuming you have already hard wired a dedicated/direct earth from the ECU to the battery. If not it is well worth doing anyway. I have to replace mine as the garage kindly removed it when replacing the gearbox. I originally installed it on advice from Ian at IRB because I was getting an odd hesitation in the power delivery, the earth cleared it up instantly.

nice one thanks .....

I already have a spare pedal on standby.

I'll report back in a bit.

Thanks for the help and advice Smile

I have an old style Nanocom. But I also checked it with a multimeter as I have an PSI powerbox and with a small pieces off Chinees electronics the PSI power box only works at full throttle.
So I had to find the right track and right voltage to programm into the electronics.

I would suggest to use a multimeter before changing parts. Roel

Hi Martin,

Went through my TPS to ECM wiring this weekend and no issues with continuity on any of the wires. Rolling Eyes

Decided to get the diagnostics back out and had a look at my readings. These were all taken with ignition on. Faults cleared. Engine not running:

Idle:
Driver Demand 1: 0.49v
Driver Demand 2: 4.66v
Driver Demand Supply: 0v

Flat to the mat:
Driver Demand 1: 4.73v
Driver Demand 2: 0.45v
Driver Demand Supply: 10.0v

Ranges all seem good to me and the diagnostics showed progressive voltage change across pedal travel on both demand 1 and 2, with them working inversely.

I also have a "Driver Demand 3" value which is 2.76v at all pedal positions and whether engine is running or not. Does not change. Suspect this could be the MAF voltage as mine is currently unplugged. Can anyone confirm what driver demand 3 is??

Is the driver demand supply an ECM calculated value rather than an actual readout?

Strangely mine developed a misfire last night as well....As earler mentioned i will be going through the earths next weekend. Wish i wasn't 150miles away from the truck during the week!

Cheers,
Fergus

The driver demand 3 should also be a voltage depending on your throttle position and also from high to low voltage.
The MAf has a complete different circuit and is not related to the throttle position. Roel
