1987 Defender 90 300 Tdi HT Epsom Green
R380 tdi gearbox
Is this box the same for a tdi and V8 or are there marked differences,
Wanting to replace a 300tdi with V8 and keep box, is this possible

My understanding is the 5 th gear is higher for a V8.
The Ashcroft transmission site will probably have the info you need.

Yes you’ll need to have the gearbox input shaft swapped for a V8 one (spigot bush diameter is different) or modified to suit.

Bellhousing bolt pattern means new bellhousing as above.

Your best bet would be to find a Discovery V8 R380 and swap your Defender remote housing over with the adaptor that Ashcrofts now do. Or if having it rebuilt get a Defender selector rail put in instead.
