I'm about to fit a Disco transfer box to my Defender and have a question. The power take off point has a cover that is bolted on had a squirt of mastic (RTV) around the mating faces to keep the oil in. The unit that this bolts to (bearing/shaft housing) that has the bearing face for the input gear has no sealant, it looks just a "good" machined finish. Is there a need to try and RTV this part to the box or has someone been in here and not refitted gaskets? Mike

Prior to transfer box serial number 288709E there should be a gasket fitted, from this serial number use Hylosil 2000 for bearing housing.
For the cover plate use Hylosil RTV 102 on all. |
