There should be two pairs of washers, each encapsulating a rubber bush, one each side of the mounting plate. Note that there are two styles of washer and each pair should consist of one of each. The ‘inner’ style has a raised lip which located into the hole on the shock mount surface, these sit against said surface. The ‘outer’ style are a simple dished washer and they sit against the shock tube and securing nut respectively.

I can’t find a pic of an installed shock that shows it clearly but in this photo you can see the bush/washer arrangement at each end - the mount goes between the inner two washers:

Originally I was going to get a rolling chassis, and then have my local garage basically detach my body, and then put it back over the new chassis. All apparently very doable but a bit fiddly, certainly easier than doing a full strip and rebuild of the entire body etc…….. best laid plans lol.

With builds, you get to that point where your invested, you’ve done it right, everything is shiny…. and the thought of dropping my body on which needed attention anyhow was quickly dropped.

The other difference is that the 200tdi bulkhead needs to be modified so that the v8 bell housing will fit. Instead of doing that to my own bulkhead I got ashtree to find me a v8 bulkhead and galv it. Expensive, and im not sure of some of their welding, but it should last a long time.

Starting to come together nicely. I'm pretty much at the same stage with my V8 90 rebuild.

Still off roading Smile

Everyone loves a photo, and I was still out happily enjoying my 200tdi about a year after I started the project. The rolling chassis was literally all new, so no need to dismantle my own just yet. This was at Hawkestone Park punch hunt event. Lots of fun. Got cross axle here Very Happy and those ATB’s won’t get you out of that.

agreed, an example of a company struggling to keep the quality up whilst they are awash in work.

Looking sorry for itself! Like destruction derby, but showed me how much work was in front if I wanted to keep the standard high.

bye bye tdi!

Given Id now got basically 2 rolling chassis in my possession it was time for the tdi to go and make room for the v8! I arranged for the garage I use to buy the complete rolling chassis from me including the engine, box etc and the hardtop which I wouldn’t be using again. I got a decent price for the lot tbh and it saved me a huge amount of hassle. happy days.

im lucky enough to have two garages, and they also helped me move the new rolling chassis over to my larger garage which would make life easier.

shed a tear that day lol
