Any worthwhile rear shock mount upgrades - standard 110.
Hi folks,

As above, I have a pretty standard 110 SW. It doesn't go "off road" except onto beaches to launch a boat, so mainly road use. No chassis lift or extreme suspension travel needed.

I'm getting some work done and replacing the shocks all round. It would probably make sense to replace the rear shock mounts while I'm at it. Is there anything out there that makes reasonable sense to replace the standard ones with, or should I just go with those?

Not really. As long as the shock mounts are in good condition I would just leave them as they are. If badly corroded then replace like for like.

I would thoroughly recommend removing the standard ones to clean up and repair/repaint the chassis rail behind as it is a magnet for corrosion. Refit standard ones with new bolts.

Only real reason to replace them at all is if the thread on the top is damaged. This is quite often the case when someone has fitted the different pitch thread M10 nut from the bottom of the shock by mistake and mashed up the threads.

I've just replaced the suspension on my 90 and used a selection of galvanised mounting hardware, some from Gwyn Lewis and some from eBay. Spring seats, front shock turrets and spring retainers are the obvious bits, coupled with stainless nuts and bolts. I also fitted Disco 2 front turret rubber retaining rings in a nod to reducing NVH.

The hardware for the rear of a 110 is obviously different, but equivalents are available. Darren

Gwyns gear is top notch. really regret taking off the challenge kit now...

I have those front disco isolators on my 110, not sure they make any difference. FYI there is nothing equivalent for the 110/130 rear springs.

thanks guys.

"A bit of work"... actually means getting a new galved chassis fitted. At which point, I reckon, just fit new stuff that makes sense.

I'm not long off the phone to Gwynn ordering the various mud guard and shield enhancements he does, and a set of new shocks. I've already got his galved spring seats and front turrets.....

But, if there's nothing that really improves on the standard rear shock mounts, I'll just get a set of them.
