I'd guess that it means the forum software doesn't understand what character the user was trying to type but may be far off. To my eyes, it looks similar to the dead-link type symbol you get when the software can't resolve something that is being asked of it.

It's all to do with Unicode - if you write something in one typeface, it may not be available in another. Alternatively, the database used by this website may only be storing ASCII, so anything in Unicode that can't be represented in ASCII appears as a ?,

As per http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic58225-15.html Question mark issue is still outstanding. It is something to do with how the database has been restored and reconnected on the new server. The site is running and at the moment this question mark issue (which is a unicode problem as identified above) will have to wait until I have the hours it'll take to keep trying things (and the inevitable groaning when there's downtime).. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |
