Boost Alloys & BFG Tyres - a dddddddecision!

So, having read many many posts I today finally committed to purchasing a new set of BFG All Terrain T/A KO2 tyres for my 57 plate Defender 90 PUMA. I have standard Boost alloys and have gone for the 265/75/16s. After much deliberation I decided to turn the white lettering inwards, primarily as I think the lettering will fade over time and I liked the more subtle approach. The tyre fitter told me that it is a roughly a 50/50 split on this!

Sure enough, the first turn on close to full lock gave rise to the rubbing/grating noises from the front suspension area. I had already decided against fitting spacers so once home I was able to make a quick adjustment to the steering stop to eliminate the noise (4 full turns of the nut at most and I was able to do this without jacking the car up or taking the wheels off); the reduction in turning circle appears relatively small and given the already limited turning range, I don't think this will be an issue going forward.................time will tell!

Price wise, I paid £610 for 4 tyres including full fitting from ATS. Accessing their website through a website called TopCashback gave me a kickback of 5% so the net cost was £578 which seems pretty competitive, at least from what I could find on the web. ATS did a nice job, all done within the hour.

I'm pleased with the result and the ride appears no different to with the previously fitted standard General Grabbers.

Doubtless others will think differently!?

Good decision. I would say though, spacers do make a huge difference to turning circle.

Ran 265/75 R16 AT2s on my 90 for years, lock studs adjusted, no spacers & never had any issues.

Good tyres, good size. I like my spacers because I think it looks awesome

I do have the gwyn lewis mudflap relocation kit to deal with the resulting splatter.

I to have not got spacers as i am happy with it the way it is
