90 V8 ragtop value?
I've decided that i'll make my Tdi road bias, I can't do too much more to it until next year now except some mechanical bits and bobs/finish off the interior since now the big time sink will preparing it for a respray.

So i'm looking for my next project and I've always wanted a V8 ragtop.

I have no idea how much I should be looking to pay since prices seem to be shifting allot, can anyone give me a rough guide:

1 - Poor
2 - Project
3 - Good
4 - Excellent

Also if someone could do the same for a pickup & can anyone recommend a good strong ragtop conversion kit? 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

1958 Series 1 Soft-top

I think the lack of response to your question is because it’s going to be vague and easily argue-able for any answer. .
Prices i’d guess is for a ‘home brew v8
1. £1200
2. £4000
3. £8000
4. £12000 [plus for a gen csw] £20-£40k for a 50th.

Though generally v8 rags are rare to see for sale.
Like you seem to be hinting at, buy what you can and convert it.
A hood stick set and hood would be around £1500, though i’m guessing.

I would say £8 -10K for a genuine V8 90 in good to very good condition, V8 conversions a bit less, but as ever buy on condition as there are some very nice V8 conversions around. Genuine ragtops are thin on the ground these days.

Basic hood stick and canvas hood around £1K new.

Was there ever a v8 rag top from land rover? maybe the NAS in the US, but I thought the other ones were diesel (SV and SVX).

I think if you really want a rag top you will need to buy one converted or just convert any defender into a rag top. Its easily done tbh.

I converted mine in a few hours with the help of a friend from a van.

Soft top conversion is relatively simple if probably more expensive than you might think.
Apart from the canopy itself, there is the support frame, the door surrounds and header rail.
Though you might make a little bit back on the sale of your hard top bits, presuming you buy a hardtop, and if I were doing it I would fit a side hinged tailgate.

As for V8 90s there are a few on fleabay at the moment, ranging from £4,000 to £40,000

A V8 90 Soft Top was listed in the brochures in the 1980's along with the diesels and 2.5 petrol but Its not an option that was often chosen.

You mentioned that you'd planned to replace the chassis and it needs a new cross member for MOT.

What is the cost of a replacement chassis and cross member these days? Factoring in labour costs for the non-DIY-able...
