Brake Warning Light
Hope someone can shed some light on an issue I've had develop and hopefully its nothing major/overly complicated.

The last couple of mornings the brake warning light has come on intermittently on the 110, but only when the engine/box are still cold and is more pronounced/frequent when going down hill.

I've checked the brake fluid level and all looks good there, and double triple checked the handbrake lever is fully down.

Suggestions?

On the face of it, a low fluid level is the only thing that would give the symptoms you describe. If the fluid level is good though, perhaps the indicator is sticking? Darren

You need to keep the fluid level slightly above the max mark to stop this happening, it is a well-known "feature" of late Defenders.

Fluid level may look ok but try topping it up. I had this issue for months, tried everything and it turned out that topping up my fluid to just over the max mark solved it

As Blackwolf and others mention. I've had it, and topping right up did indeed cure it. Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Did this myself not one week ago.

Keep in mind that the fluid that used to fill up the top of the reservoir got low as it was making up the distance that your newer brake pads and disks used to...

I hope that made sense Laughing

Wouldn't hurt to have a look at them one day soon. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

When the fluid goes down, it may happen that in certain situations the warning light turns on.
I would not top up, if anything I would check the state of wear of the brake pads, especially the front wheels.

If you top up, when you change the pads with the new ones the level of the pan will rise too much.

Glad I am on this forum! My brake warning light has just started to flicker, so checked the pads and the fluid level (just a tad below the Max mark). Will be topping it up when I get to my local auto-factor! Cheers Don.

I have checked the pads and they have plenty of life in them so I topped up the reservoir and the light has stopped flickering. Cheers Don.
