I've got a horn problem, and viagra won't fix it :)
Hey Guys,

I have a 2000 defender td5.

This morning I came back from a walk and the horn started going by itself. All different pitches high, low, on, off, constant etc. On the drive home (horn still going mental), the wipers came on once or twice.

It stopped after a few minutes, but now the horn doesn't work when the button is pressed but everything else seems back to normal.

All fuses are fine and there's power at the switch.

Do you need to remove the wing to get a the horn? I took off the headlight surround and I can see the horn but there's no access.

P.S. I have another electrical problem with fuse 19 blowing. RH side light, dip dim, tail light, fog light, and dash back light are all cut when the fuse blows. (I've had this problem for a few months but haven't got it fixed).

Could it possibly be a bad earth causing the whole lot? Saying the wipers went when the horn went off (and wipers are a different circuit and switch).

Does sound like a loom issue, with multiple live feeds.

Hope you've not had any rodent issues? Shocked ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

You can access the horn from the engine bay. Just a tad fiddley and you have to do it blind (by feel), but its definitely doable. And I agree with the others that you obviuosly have a wiring loom issue. Check your wiring under steering column fascia inside. Remove and verify condition of all the wires there first. Then trace to the bulkhead and finally into the engine bay.

Try looking behind the Fuse Box for water ingress, on my 300tdi, the Vent Openings were leaking causing water to flow down the Bulkhead behind the Fuse Box causing the wipers to operate on their own, resolved by using new sealing elements on the openings, NormanD WE191

Took off the light again today and removed the horn connection, one of the wee pins was wrecked so that's how the horn got busted..

Luckily my gf was in need of a new horn for her Jimny, I bought a generic horn but haven't fitted it yet. I tested power was going to the horn, cut the connector, stripped the wires and fitted spades for the new universal horn (may as well fit it while everything was off!).

Everything working fine, and I replace fuse 19 (the one that kept blowing), had a drive around with lights on and everything seems to be working again.

Let's hope that sorted it.
