Road tax
So, will the DVLA now admit they made a huge cock up when changing the way we tax our vehicles?

I've Just watched on the news, that 700,000 people have not bothered to pay road tax!
I was always led to believe the new system was to stop people who avoided paying?

What on earth is happening to this country?? Shocked 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

I heard too, only thing I like is not having to change the disc it's self over and the DD option.

Not too overly fussed about changing the disc over.

What are the coppers doing with the ANPR? I thought these systems were all over the place so how are they managing it. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Why do we not add a fixed amount to the fuel duty and then the users will be the payers. Overseas drivers will pay as well.
No avoidance and limited overheads. Limited usage will equal small payment etc etc Thumbs Up 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue

Look at how much money we saved getting shot of the Tax disc!! Someone probably got paid a large bonus for that decision.

It shouldn't really come as any surprise to anyone, should it?

Easy fix. Get rid of it and add it to fuel duty. You drive a little, you pay a little. You drive a lot, you pay a lot. You drive a car that does 80mpg, you pay less, you drive a Defender (or similar vehicle), you pay more. If you take your car off the road, you pay nothing. It's fair and it's almost impossible to get around unless you steal the fuel.

Now, I don't suppose I'm going to make many friends on here for saying that, but it would work and there is a system already for collecting fuel duty, so the cost to collect would be minimal.

Of course, whether that would ever be implemented, or if it was, whether it would be carte blanche for the Government to have a field day by bumping fuel up a good chunk and making even more money, that is another conversation.

It all sounds a bit like Poll Tax, putting the road fund licence on fuel.

One person in a house pays for their council services. Four people in a house pay four times the single persons amount amount (as they use four times the services).

Went down like a lead balloon (for those of you too young to remember it) and almost caused anarchy on the streets.

A certain Maggie Thatcher lost her job over that little decision.

I'm not sure how this would be received????
