So basically my favourite rear lights are what twisted do with all clear perei 95mm LED lights at the bottom and red perei 95mm LED lights for the side/stop lights. My second favourite look would be completely OEM look but with all clear lenses, led bulbs and the later round reverse/fog, however there are plenty of people on the forum that will tell me upgrading the bulbs to LED's is illegal.
I currently have an early td5 with all standard lights (square fog+reverse) I have mild ocd so when i see an old defender that has been converted from square lights to round lights and the gap between the fog/reverse and the indicator is way too huge! Although i have seen examples where they are almost the right distance apart... Like in this slightly shoddy tutorial https://www.landroverexpedition.com/techni...og-lights/ Im not a fan of the RDX type led lights. What im after is advice and pictures from anyone on here who has changed their lights on a pre 2002 defender to Perei 95mm ones and how it looks and what wiring adaptors i'd need going from the squre to round LED ones. Also to make things slightly more insteresting the previous owner managed to reverse into something and make a slight dent where the square reverse light sits, so i may have to get this rectified before i start this job. See my picture below. I think i may go ahead and buy a plinth for a 95mm light and have a play around to see how much i can cover up of the existing light holes and get an idea of how close or OEM looking i can get it. Originally i wasnt a fan of drilling new holes in the body work but after seeing what was underneath my reverse light when i took it off i though i need not worry Click image to enlarge |

Some advice I found, some of the plinths need new holes drilling in the body, but others don’t. I ended up with wrong ones but found a useful post by Martin with the correct part numbers for Direct fitment plinths.
I used lights from MUDstuff who I believe use the same items as LR for the SVX trucks. I had previously hired a 90 with all clear rear lenses from the factory but wasn’t entirely sure on the look, so I went for red stop / tails and clear everything else. Here are a few pics, first the all clear then what I went for Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge My 90 Project : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52774.html |

Buy genuine Landrover plinths and just drill through them in the same place as your holes, then nuts and bolts and jobs done! No need to drill your bodywork at all. As for wiring, it's just a case of swapping over to some new plugs (which will depend on where you buy the lights) and screw the lights in place. Ray

It's not a TD5 but I have made the same change to my 90. The 95mm plinths cover the holes left by the rectangular lights quite nicely.

Awesome LandroverAnorak this is what I wanted to see. Was that light as close to the indicator as you could get it?
Still need to find someone on here who's got a 95mm indicator too to see how far apart they sit. Not going to be quite as snug as the oem look Click image to enlarge |

They're probably not as absolutely close as they could be but it was the sensible location to open up the hole to take the round light body. To move them closer would mean trying to drill a larger hole with a cone cutter that was off centre from the existing hole, which was just more faff than it was worth.
I haven't measured it but I reckon my fog and reverse lights are about 10-15mm inboard of where they are on post '02 models, which is a compromise that I was prepared to live with. I don't think they look too out of place. No you're right they look pretty spot on but you have standard indicators.
I reckon the gap would seem exaggerated with some nas indicators sitting next door like what I'm hoping to do. Which is why i was also wondering if there are any 70mm OEM looking little LED lights for the indicators and stop lights as it wouldnt look gappy. EDIT: Found these on another thread nice LED lights with OEM look smoked lenses https://www.nakatanenga.de/en/lighting/sig...sets?c=467 If they bought those out with clear oem look lenses for the indicators and red lensed side lights, that paired with the Perie NAS reverse/fog could be a good look hmmmm |
