Rusty C-Pillar Advice

Hi,

This is a photo of where the c-pillar bracket connects onto the second row seat box (2013 110 station wagon).

It's rusting like this on both sides & the whole arrangement appears to be designed with the aim of collecting mud on the underside to keep this part continually damp.

Is this a known problem spot & does anyone have any advice on how to treat it before it spreads further? I was thinking of blasting it underneath with rust converter & rubbing down the top to bare metal and priming & painting. But I don't know what I'm doing so what would be a better approach?

Thanks, any thoughts appreciated.

Yes, mine went on one side. I had a section cut out and new metal welded in. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Yes, as Bluest says unfortunately they all do this and it seems to be almost impossible to prevent.

I have just done exactly this on my 05 TD5.

I cleaned both sides to bear metal, used rust converter, zinc primer, paint, then tetraseal type stuff as a sacrificial coating.

Mine went the same. I took mine to be undersealed by Zagato and he treated the underside with rust converter as part of that process. The top was sprayed with ACF50 and hasn't got any worse since. I've also fitted the Gwyn Lewis guards in that area to protect it from road spray. Darren
