Rear door lock - new barrel
So the old barrel (pre 2002 version) has been removed from the rear door latch and a new barrel inserted. i can see the little brass stud pop up so i believe its all installed ok.

However... when you try and lock the door / turn the key to the left, the keys turns all the way horizontal and the handle is defo locked, but the chuffin key won't then come out of the barrel. ie the key only comes out at the vertical when the door is unlocked.

The old and new barrels are visibly identical, but clearly somethings not right ... any bright ideas?

The normal action is quarter turn to the left to lock, quarter to the right to unlock, with the key removable when vertical. Does your key turn both left and right? Darren

yep - goes left and right.

on the old lock when it was horizontal it would be locked and the key will come out on the horizontal. The new one will turn as far either way but if the key will only come out at the 12 oclock position which then unlocks the door.

just had a thought, is it supposed to move independent of the little internal locking lever as that moves with it?

Yeah, the lever should move with the barrel but you shouldn't be able to take the key out at anything other than vertical.

Are you trying it with the door open or closed? When I replaced my rear door recently, I found that when shut the latch wasn't quite engaged, which made the lock behave strangely. Adjusting the keep so that the latch fully closed solved that one.

Alternatively, are you sure you have the barrel in the right way around? Darren

I had the same issue as above when I replaced the door/lock/barrel etc. By adjusting the Keep it solved the problem. The key has to be in the 12 o clock position to take the key out.

So a load of wd40 and the lock in and out a few times and it's working. I can now turn the key to the lhs then back to vertical and it stays locked, rather than unlocking itself.

Thanks for your help. Appreciated 👍
