Torch for Glovebox
One of the essential items I keep in the Defender is a small flash light for emergency use. I've been using a Mini Maglite with a standard zenon bulb. I've now decided to replace them with a LED hand torch. There appears to be dozens on the market, so does any one have any recommendations to replace my Mini Maglites?

Please don't suggest the Evoque rechargeable as I have already ruled this out.

I used to use an LED conversion for the mini-maglite, it was superb and the batteries seemed to last forever. Might be worth a try?

My current glovebox torch of choice is the Coast HP7R, a rechargeable LED torch. I find it to be robust, extremely well-made,, versatile, and exactly right for a glovebox torch. I have also found that Coast's aftersales support is very good (one of mine got exceptionally wet on night and they replaced it FOC due to the ensuing condensation).

At the other extreme, I have just bought the latest spec Fenix RC40 rechargeable LED torch, which would (probab;y) fit in the cubby but not in a (normal) glovebox, and which whacks out an astonishing 6000 lumens. I am not aware of any other torch currently available which produces more light! It is impressive, but it is actually too powerful for many applications - it almost falls into the "weaponised" category! Rolling with laughter

I have a couple from different torches from LED Lenser and they've all been fab, I'd definitely recommend them.

Recently a purchased a Sealey LED torch/worklight to assist with a gearbox removal whilst abroad and since then used it far more than was expecting, probably more use than the torch. USB charging is handy given that everything seems to use them now. It lives magnetised to the side of the cubby box.

You could try these, cheaper than buying a new torch - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Maglite-Upgrade-T...pgrade+led NormanD WE191

I’ve got 5 or 6 of these and really rate them. Cheap, very reliable and really good at lighting up the darkness, especially with some decent batteries. The battery life is excellent too.

+1... I have a Mini Maglite (2 x AA batteries), put a pair of Duracell rechargeables and a LED (120 Lumen IIRC) conversion - works great!

I also have a Led Lenser (same size) - also works great (~130 lumens IIRC)

Could not tell you which I prefer.,..probably the on/off button on the heel of the LED Lenser gives it slightly more "marks".

Both good tho Smile Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
