Hello
I need some lighting in the garage that hopefully my series will be in soon. I was looking at the LED options but are these bright enough for tinkering in the darker months. Do I go Warm White or Cool white? Was looking at ,maybe two of these :- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Industrial-Tripro...QE0T4WMVXY Thanks |

Hi Stacey. LED light is much better than both halogen and fluorescent IMHO. More crisp if that means anything. For work in the garage I would go for the cool whiter light as well. The warm light is a little more yellow and more suited to a comfy waiting room with/without water cooler bubbling in the corner...
Obviously IMHO that is... |

I replaced all my flouro tubes with LED versions, not cheap but a vast improvement.

I'd say a 20W LED would be good amount of light and as above the LED gives a very good quality light. James

I would second that, custom90steve. Cool white would be a good choice for workshops (I would mostly go for a warm white if you are putting them in your house).
LED's are good as fluorescent lights do tend to be very dim in very cold weather, especially when they are first switched on. The LED's won't suffer with that. If you have fluorescent lighting in the garage already (The T8 lamp type) and they have switch starters in the fittings, the conversion to LED is simple. I work in Building Services design and was at a seminar last Thursday with a lighting manufacturer. They were saying that they hardly ever get requests for fluorescent lighting designs and will probably retire most of their fluorescent light fittings in the near future. At the minute, LED is the future, well at least in commercial lighting. |

I'm thinking of doing this in my garage soon too.
Not got much room above the Defender roof so wondering if anyone has very used any other lower profile lighting instead of the flouro tube replacements? I agree that cool white (6000k?) is the way to go in a workshop or garage. |

We have downlighters and spotlights in our home - all with GU10 bulbs. We replaced all of them with LED bulbs - all 38 of them! Plus all the outside lights were changed - 21 of them - for LED GU10s. Best thing we ever did. Cool, crisp, bright white light. Cheapest I've seen them for is £2 each (5 watt equivalent to 40 watt) is in Screwfix, so four would give you 160 watt equivalent for just £8. But they also do LED floodlights, too.
There was a report in a science mag that LED lights don't attract attention so much from moths etc. We have most definitely noticed that. |

Great,
Cool white LED around 20W it is then. I doubt if I will have much room at all above the Series but will see. Currently no power in their at all so I'm going to take the power for the lights off an outside waterproof 2 way supply and use armoured cabling. Willlook at whats available. |

I'm thinking about replacing my fluorescent fittings with something like these as they're only 26mm tall once in a surface mount frame. Personally I'd go for the daylight white over the cool white. Definitely not warm white for a workshop though. https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Li...index.html |

^^^^ TLC are a great company.
As mentioned already, you can either go for new LED downlighters or convert Flourescent fittings. Significant saving on energy bills too, done this with the house and power is around £20 a month now and was more like £65 or something like that a few years ago. Each light fitting used to be 60 - 100w and now 8 - 9w each. Outdoor lights much the same, previously 150w flood now 20w LED and actually brighter. And my 90 is full LED. too. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ¥ó ®ó §ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó ´ó ¿ðŸ‡®ðŸ‡ªðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸â›½ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |

When lighting agricultural workshops we often mount strip lights vertically on the walls. The light fan then spreads out over the side of the vehicle, which is mostly where you want it. We find particularly with big machinery like combines overhead lights just light the roof of the vehicle which then shadows the sides. You can get some very good mobile battery operated LED lights, which you can obviously move to exactly where you want it for specific tasks. James

I was thinking maybe the sides rather than roof.
This is what I want to light, I would say it's a single and a bit? Probably wider than a normal single also. Its 'my' garage as it's at the back of the house not attached, the other Garage is attached and we are currently thinking what to convert it into Click image to enlarge The Sankey is now under a cover I built at the side Click image to enlarge |
