Has anyone been blown over by today's winds? Looking at my trees they are nearly being blown flat. I am staying in, though we are just experiencing the edge of the storm it’s all a bit scary, the wind is howling over my roof hope the roof stay on. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Wow, just see on our news that Ireland experienced 190kph winds with lots of damage.
Nothing wrong here, matter of fact thanks to this Ophelia tropical storm we experience late summer weather with unusual 24C daytime temps for October. Eric You never actually own a Defender. In East Anglia it is reasonably quiet, with a slight gusting of the wind as yet.
Oddly, there is a very strange slightly orange hue to the sunset that has been building up late afternoon. The local radio is suggesting that there is a fair about of desert sand in the sky and this is giving the colour. We are on our way home to London later so it will be interesting to see if the weather changes at all. My thoughts go to all of you who are suffering loss or damage to property, or, loss of life in Ireland, and I wish you well. 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue 1967 Morris Traveller 1966 Morris Convertible 2012 VW T5 Camper Quod Abundat Non Obstat. |

Lucky 🍀 as above, missing the worst of it in East Anglia. But very strange light all afternoon and a spectacular sunset.

We had really odd, periapocalyptic light for most of the morning, with an orangy-red sun dimly visible through murky cloud. It was very surreal!
Saharan dust mixed with particulates from the Iberian wildfires, apparently, but a very "sci-fi" effect! |

I have just walked past our local chip shop just as the 'pukka pies' sign blew over. Can I count that as storm damage?

Here in Berkshire, we had the orange sky all morning and up until about 2.00. But all we had were stiff breezes, and I'm on top of a hill. Sad to hear of loss of life in Ireland. But I really don't know why people unnecessarily leave their home when it's like that. It would have to be 'life or death' to get me out. Now left.

This reminds me of working the night before the 1987 storm. I was out delivering sandbags to a few isolated properties on the Essex Coast, flooding not from the sea but because of the heavy rainfall which caused widespread flooding in the days leading up to the storm.
I was driving a a vauxhall astravan if I recall which despite being nearly new was put to work in the floodwater! Anyway, I arrived home at about 2am and all hell broke loose at about 4am. I am thankful I was inside by then and not in the van or stuck in a country lane with trees falling all about. All seems along time ago now..... |

As above, a very orange sky today in the Thames Valley, and went almost pitch black at around 2pm when I was at work.
My CB radio aerial was moving around a lot which would suggest a decent breeze, but no gales as it is still attached. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group |
