Is it plugged in? Mine came loose, just needed reconnecting and a clean then it was fine.
Got any diagnostic kit? |

I have diagnostic kit but not with me in work. Will check the coolant level and then when home plug in and see what gives.
It was working last night so I assume its still plugged in. Does this run via fuse? 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Not sure if it runs via a fuse, though I expect it does but the fuse runs the entire cluster.
Like I said mine was fine one day, not the next, it had worked its way loose due to a corroded connector. Worth checking the simple things first! Diag kit should tell you if its running up to temp properly, maybe ven tell you the gauge is faulty (never tried myself) |

Just check coolant level and about 10mm below cold fill line.
I don't think any has been lost, I think that is were the coolant has levelled out at after changing it and running around for a bit. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

mine always drops to 10mm below, it doesn't matter how many times I top it up it always drops to that and stays there. 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

The gauge does move but appears to take more driving than normal.
Nanocom has a feature to make the needle for the temp gauge move - and it does, so that tells me the gauge and wiring is OK at least to a point. Took car for spin and Nanocom showed the temp to be 69.3C this was about the highest I saw it while on a test run. A blast down the motorway and the needle did eventually move. The pic below shows the needle sitting at 69.3c as read from Nanocom. Click image to enlarge I think I will replace the temp sensor in the cylinder head. Replaced the temp sensor with a spare and topped up what coolant I lost while swapping the sensor out.
Will plug in the Nanocom tomorrow and see how the temperature reading is compared to the needle. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

25 minute trip to work at roughly 30mph and still the same.
