That's the whole point here. It should be an opinion. You don't like it but some people do. So there's no need to overstate it with nonsense like
. Everyone is entitled to their own choice. I must say though that being responsible for a large OEM R&D centre, the thought of some random bloke ringing up and trying to influence designs with his opinions did make me laugh! Pete |

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no need to get too defensive...its only a forum. just on the latter - whilst im nothing important - im slightly more than a random bloke ringing up R&D and i did Mike |

Mr Mse
is it your point that there can be no change on a car that was designed in 1948 ? As a Designer myself I find your comments funny, you passed your thoughts to the designers. Well I have news for you they did not take your points on board. As I am sure you have seen all the new Defender special editions have the new grill. If you wanted to take that approach you probably should have gone to the marketing dept as well. I think you do not understand that the standard grill and the new one speak a different language and also appeal to different people, this does not make one good and one bad. Your view shows a lack of understanding about how a defender appeals to different types of people in different ways. I think that LR with the new grill design aimed it at a younger buyer who buys into the defender brand ( as thats what it is) and is looking for a fresh twist on an iconic piece of design. Much like Coke changing the logo and colours on a classic bottle. I could go on for ever but............... Can you answer me... how much money is equal to sense ? |

It all changed, of course when 'sense' went decimal. Back in the good old days it was easy - 5 'opinions' to a 'bright idea'. 8 'bright ideas' in an 'accepted truth' and 13 'accepted truths' to every 'sense'. Given that everyone knew that it took just 6 'just my 2p' to form an 'opinion', a 'sense' was clearly worth £62.40. To be honest, I could never follow it in decimal. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

I can see this thread could go the wrong way Change design is great - improving it is great Im a firm believer in the evolution of the LR product line...Disco 3 was ugly (why they changed it) but all good. I do happen to know a few in marketing to as it happens! The new design is aimed to do a few things ...but the younger buyer was not the only reason and your assuming im really old, but im probably within that sort of grouping they use for that category in defender sales! Im on record as liking the fire and ice - which many hate, i know that has the new front - before you say, not saying it always works. A new twist on an old design it is - and the latest one is good My point on money was simply £1500 + to make something look more ugly than the fine original lines, add little to no functionality, that you couldnt get from £50-£70 is more money than sense...but hey i didnt say it was wrong. I still think the SVX wasnt what a special edition should be (they hadnt the money) has been watered down by all the copies specials (as they haven always done close to the end of life) the front wasnt great to begin with...but it will soften the blow later i suppose And the defender has made its market on being a heritage design since 1948! change isnt always for the better however needed and some change is bad...some designs bad Is this a late night over-reaction or sensitive svx owners...or is it me poking a wasp nest - or a harmless difference of opinion in danger blowing up (like many of the other forums) into a needless waste of typing time Mike |

You blokes should all have a litte afternoon nap, me thinks.
But back to what I see as the thrust if the issue, the easiest and cheapest way to improve your lights, is simply to upgrade the globes to Philips Xtreme Power or Osram Nightbreaker globes. These globes provide about an 80% increase in light output compared to standard globes. Cheers KarlB |

Perhaps this is what I'm after. I'm not to keen on the way the SVX grill looks either - I just want to improve my main beams w/o too much trouble. I had read (and most likely misunderstood) something about the SVX lights being better, assumed they were just referring to the bulb/lens. Ideally I'd like to keep the 110 looking as stock as possible. I think it is a classic design and I like it for that. Actually... I like the black grill more than the grey one my XS has, but that is a different subject altogether. |

so sense is equal to just under a Euro !
that cannot be right, so to buy a Mars Bar makes no sense ! I like them and they are cheaper than the svx grill |
