There is NO gasket on the TDCI between the turbo and downpipe (at least not on the 2.4, not sure about the 2.2), it is a metal-to-metal joint.
There is (of course) a gasket between the manifold and the head, and a gasket between the manifold and turbo, but no gasket between the turbo and downpipe/cat. A squeal is more commonly associated with a leak between the manifold and turbo, or between the manifold and head. The squealing noise is usually made by the gasket vibrating at high frequency in the joint, and if there is no gasket it doesn't tend to do this. I regularly develop a squeal from the head-to-manifold joint since the thread has failed in the head on one of the front manifold branch bolts, and one of the jobs on the to-do list is to fit a Timesert insert into the head (to do this the massive alternator support bracket has to come off, so it is a bit of a PITA and I have't got round to it yet, I just very carefully tighted the bolt as much as I can). I did have the flange break off the downpipe a couple of years ago, and the only noticeable difference was a slight increase in exhaust noise, a strong snell of fumes in the cabin, and a significant improvement in performance! |

with TJ101s help today someone to push accelerator whilst i could look in the engine bay, identified the leak, its turbo/exhaust manifold that is leaking with as Blackwolf says the gasket there vibrating.
So the uber ££ Nakatanga one or another std one with paste? Those stud/nuts look like they are going to break too! Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

The studs and nuts should be renewed.
You will want to check the manifold and turbo flanges for flatness as they are prone to warping. If they are, they can be adequately flatened using abrasive sheets on a piece of plate (or nowadays float) glass. |

local LR people couldnt get me a gasket until Sat, ordered a transit kit online (which incidently comes with a turbo to down pipe manifold). It all arrived today so thought oh well lets do it.
one nut was loose and others came undone ok (turbo to manifold this is) new triangular gasket in with paste, used the old studs and nuts as didnt have new will see what its like on a test drive later probably easier on mine with no AC. did have to take downpipe and the air 'in' pipe to the turbo to be able to get the housing off the studs (i have nugget air hose against wing there so a little tight) for info: ![]() Click image to enlarge Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

old one def broken! which on reflection i think is from the exhaust escaping past it with one of the nuts loose. Cheers
