The main contenders are, tyre size, weight distribution and suspension type. Other 4x4's are always made to be better on the road, the defender is out and out off road. Gearing also plays a part in it and so does the engine delivery of torque especially in sand. Ive followed land cruisers off road in welsh forests and they did ok, but when it got really bad it took 2 hours to get it 400 yards, all i did was low 2nd and diff lock in and we just kept going. Same thing happened with a disco 4, but it was straight out the factory on road tyres. Me and the land cruiser had both had AT's on. Pete. |

Thanks, so it is the gearing/torque that does it. I don't suppose Toyota claim their Land Cruiser can climb a 45 degree angle. |
