a low-frequency whooop-whooop noise final drive (rear diff )
TD5 06 pickup 47,000


A low-frequency whooop-whooop noise in all gears oil leave ok in both boxes, UJ replaced X4, output bearing replaced in Transfer box, wheel bearing checked all ok

looking for way check the final drive Question

This might be 1000 miles off but the sound you described happened to me with our Freelander 2 not so long ago. Everyone pointed me to a rear diff pinion bearing but it turned out to be a rear wheel bearing. Drove us mad with the sound, bearing fitted-stopped immediately!

thank but both rear wheel bearing have been replaced Crying or Very sad

having removed final drive and checked it over Exclamation

7.50 16 Mitchell XZL MS but had same noise with diffract make tyre same size

tyre and wheel swiped from front to back diagonally and You here YOUR SELF think Exclamation not 100% but big in-promovent ( sawtooth tyre wear ) Idea

I have just had mine in the main dealers to double check for the same - it was the tyres that had uneven wear on the tread ... swapped front to back and it improved ..

7.50 16 Mitchell XZL MS on the pick up 90 with problem

and BFG 235 85 16 AT ( *^) on the HT 90 and no problems at tall fitted 03 and still going strong

TYRES and tracking drive like new Thumbs Up
