Wiper arm falling off
My wiper arm fell off a few weeks ago in the rain and got squashed on the road Sad
Lukily I had a spare.
Swapped to a new arms and new spindles and then today the arm fell off again while in use...

This time i was lucky and I was stopped at the lights, so managed to save the wiper arm and blade.
But why do they fall off? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Are you using Britpart wiper spindle boxes, as a friend of mine had exactly the same issue. Ended up replacing with genuine Landrover ones, problem solved. We experimented with both spindles in our hands, and could just pull the wiper arms off the cheep ones, but couldn’t on the LR ones. Just an idea,

I am not using Britpart spindle boxes, but splined adapters (at the end of the spindles) from Britpart. 1999 Defender TD5 110

It was the splined adapters that just wouldn’t hold the wiper arm on, the LR ones did. Showed him your first message tonight, and had to have a laugh, not at you, but at the same saga he went through. I really think it’s the splined adapters at fault. Hope you get it sorted 👍

New splines ordered. Lets hope these last. I lost the drivers side wiper twice tonight on the way home. Now I have no more spares Sad as they are both in the middle of an A road in Wales! 1999 Defender TD5 110

How far in should the splines sit inside the end of the wiper arm?
Looking at the splined adapter there is a groove, should the little clip thing on the wiper arm sit into this? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Hello excossack,
We thought the same, but they don’t go on that far. Push them as far down as possible then drop the arms on to the windscreen. My friend had no more trouble after he fitted genuine LR spindle adaptors, I hope it sorts yours out as well,
Cheers

I have the genuine spindle adapters now. Looking at the wear marks on the splines in the wiper arm, I am less the half way in/engaged and the little tab/hook on the wiper arm does not sit in groove.
I think some time spent with a small screw driver removing the excess powder coating/paint is in order.
Getting fed up with each time it rains the arm falls off.... 1999 Defender TD5 110

Hopefully solved. I used the vice in the shed and slowly pressed the splined adapter in and then removed a couple of times to help remove excess paint. Now the splined adapters now sit better and the little clip on the wiper arm now sits in the groove 1999 Defender TD5 110
