Hi All
First post on here so HI to everyone! Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on a decent replacement battery for "Angus" I dont have any juicy extras to draw much power but looking for something bomb proof that I do not have to worry about for a good few years. Thanks in advance for any advice Adam |

I bought a Yuasa YBX5020 yesterday,http://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-batteries/yuasa-5-year-guarantee-hsb020-silver-12v-car-battery I was going to buy the Yuasa YBX5019 (or Halfords part number HSB019) as the battery on my V8 hard top had given up the ghost, but the 019 has gone up to £132, but the 020 is cheaper at £125, so I bought it.
It fits, (only about a inch and a half longer) it starts the old girl with gusto and should last forever (much finger crossing!) |

Had a Bosch S5013 on my 90 300TDi for over 12-years and despite frequent prolonged lay-ups it was still providing reliable service when I decided to replace it last year.
Needless to say I replaced it for an identical battery (£104) so here's looking at another decade+ of reliable performance! ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

Had a Halfords special in mine when I got it. After a couple of months it gave up, although I've no idea how long it had been in there.
Replaced it with a Red Top and not had any issues. |

Landumph, coincidentally, I did exactly the same thing last week, my HSB019 was only £125 but for the same price the 020 looks better, well done... both good batteries though.
But an alarming (and only slightly relevant) story: last Wednesday we had a power cut, the alarm outside the house peep-peep-peeped - like a pro couldn’t silence it in 0.03 seconds flat - but when the power came back on the interior house alarm went off and all hell broke loose until I disarmed it. On Thursday morning the truck only started at the second attempt, but in the meantime its alarm went off, only cutting out when the engine fired up. Later that afternoon there was another mains power cut (third-world country or what?), when it came on I had to disarm the house alarm again. The neighbours wouldn’t have been too pleased if I hadn’t been around. So on Friday the alarm engineers came round to replace the batteries and check the system, but the truck wouldn’t start at all, I had to get a booster charger out of the garage and connect it, all to the accompaniment of the truck’s alarm. Quick visit to Halfords (yeah, I should strain my back lifting a battery and disposing of the old one when I can give a kid fifteen quid), end of saga… BUT, on Saturday night about 21:30 the missus came into my study: “Are you deaf? Can’t you hear the alarm?” Obviously not the house alarm - that you WOULD hear - I went out to the truck, wasn’t that, but next door’s outside alarm was flashing and peep-peep-peeping not particularly loudly. Lights were on, I assumed the guy was having the same cold-weather battery symptoms I’d been experiencing. At 11:30 the missus came upstairs again: You ARE deaf, didn’t you hear the Police knocking on our door? The neighbours have come home to find they’ve been burgled and did we see or hear anything” Oh dear. The missus is beating herself up ‘cos she didn’t ‘phone the Police immediately, and my neighbour will probably beat me up when he finds out I ignored his alarm! Peter |

340k - Good going! Turns out one doesnt need a new battery, it was just the wiring to the Glow Plugs had completely corroded. Renewed all that and she fired up a dream Enjoyed your story Birdy. Keep them doors locked and the Landy pinned down. |
