Both are made by MANTEC.
You can buy the blade type straight from them or many LR/ Off road websites...... They are probably not allowed to sell the SVX one direct. Glyn |

Cheers Glyn.
I dropped them an email bluntly asking the same last week. I know they make the ribbed Freelander shield, but they haven't replied yet with the crack. I take it the pre 2007 blade type will happily fit an 11my Defender? |

The ribbed one came out in 2009 on the SVX as a special part.... at the same time it was a standard fit extra in Europe and then for MY10 it was adopted for the UK market. Up to 2010 in the UK they kept fitting the older blade type steering guard. I got the ribbed one with mine from the factory, but needed to change to the blade type when I fitted the winch bumper- the inner bracket is the same item it is just the alloy 'blade' that is a slightly different shape- it will fit your MY11 Defender without any problems. Glyn, cheers for the info.
You were right RE Mantec not being able to sell the SVX shield. I just called them following your reply. "Yes we do make the ribbed shield for LR but unlike the blade, we can't sell this one direct as this was designed escpecially for LR and the SVX model. You'd have to go via a LR dealer I'm afraid". A one hundred and something blade.......compared to a three hundred and something ribbed shield. Hmmmmmmm |

No-brainer isn't it.... Plus if you get the blade type and then have some spare cash later I belive you can actually buy just the blade and swap it over without removing any of the fixings.
Plus the odd one pops up on here reasonable cheap.... Maybe you could be the 4th owner of the the one I had origionaly- it seems to keep moving from one Defender to another. Glyn |
