Rear axle whine.....

.....that wasn’t

My rear axle had been moaning for a while, and was getting worse. I changed the oil but it made no difference, not that it would unless it was empty.

I’d considered getting it repaired but my local lndy said it would “go for years like that” so l left it.
Last week l changed the tyres, not for new ones but for the ones off the front (new ones went on the front)

The moaning noise has gone! I can’t believe it.

Tyres were all the same make, (standard LR OE) although l have been running with the rears at 44psi as per the handbook. I wonder if the high pressure is causing a difference in the wear pattern, or something.

tyre sawtooth, sound like wheel bearing or diff moaning had the problem with my pickup with new tyres that had been fitted check hole load thing wheel bearing and diffs, UJ. one of the tyres had slow air Leck had tyres checked
tyre fitter find nail in the tyre no repair wrong place in the tyre one tyre fitted no more sound

I have a Skoda VRS that is a absolute nightmare for this, makes you think wheel bearings are shot! New tyres and it’s silent again... had the tracking checked and it was very fractionally out.
