Might be a strange question but the horns almost stopped working, it works once and then no more unless some time has passed. Have searched on here but can not find anything similar.
Cleaned and replaced connectors at the horn end expecting it to be an earth problem, not sure where it is earthed. Stripped the stalk end and all looks Ok but separated the actual button from the stalk and it looks like the little metal ring that the contacts touch in the button cap looks worn, could that be the problem? Mind you thought that pressing contacts together should sound the horn but it did not. AND is it possible just to replace the button without having to replace the whole assembly (although relatively cheap)? Have not tried a bulb attached to wires yet to test the horn as the horn works once and no more for a while?? Any advice? Jeff Ex 1968 Series 2A Ex 90 TD5 Ex D3 Ex D4 |

I would replace the horn, simple job and costs little. Mine is also from '96, and after 20 years the plastic parts of the horn were very brittle and cracked, so air was escaping. Cheers, Vincent

DorsetSmith Thanks for your response, since posting have tried all sorts without success, tried it today and horn worked once and no more. horn works fine when connected to a spare battery. There are no fuses in the stalk, they are all in the main fuse board. Apart from the 3 or is it 4 mega blade fuses in the engine compartment fuse box.

Thanks chaps will have another look. Interior light works fine (I think it is on one of the same fuses). The previous owner had a Td5 wiring loom installed and I am not sure that all wiring is according to diagram, especially fuse box. it is strange that horn worked once and no more.

It may be worth testing the horn button. Try bypassing it and see it that gives you continuous power to the horn. Darren

That TD5 diagram looks right (at least the wires are same colour).
To make matters more complicated I think it is a Wolf fuse box mounted in front of the gearstick! Fuses 1-9 on top row 10 is empty and 11-19 on bottom row (20 empty). Number 9 fuse 10amp was blown, replaced it but horn still not working so I have no idea what that fuse controls. Checked all fuses and all OK, all other systems working fine. I will try and bypass horn switch but am inclined to replace the stalk since horn worked only once an then no more. hey ho Jeff Ex 1968 Series 2A Ex 90 TD5 Ex D3 Ex D4 |

Turned out to be a double fault, both stalk and horn! This is why horn would only work once and then no more. Both replaced and all fine.
