Sorry to say it but my experience with Alive was not great, l had my TD5 remapped by the Alive agent in Oldham (Dasall)
The remap was not a success (far too much smoke) and to cut a long story short l had to get the vehicle reset at Land Rover. l never got any money back from Alive and ended up £500 out of pocket in total. I ran it standard for a while but then got it done by Dynachip and he was great, really knows his stuff. Unlike Alive he test drives the remap (with you driving) to make sure it's OK. He had to adjust mine twice. it's been fine since he did it with a good increase in performance and no smoke. Dynachip is cheaper (£240 rather than £360) and he comes out to you, no need to take it in.
I would recommend Alive,BAS, or IRB although only have dealt with Alive! However with no disrespect, I am curious why you did not try too resolve your issue with Gary or his staff. They put up with me a time or two with patience and understanding |

Yes Alive do get good reviews and the Dasall guy seems also to get good reviews (although he's blocked me from leaving one!)
After it was remapped it produced far too much smoke when l floored it, l tried for over a month to contact him with no success. So l contacted Alive head Office, and they did eventually reply after two weeks to say they had been in touch with Dasall and if l took it back he would have a look at it. But in the meantime l'd been stopped by the rozzers and been given a VRN, so was out of time waiting for Alive. I contacted Dasall to request a partial refund, l suggested £150 which is pretty much what it cost for Land Rover to reset it. Which still leaves him with £210. I've had no reply whatsoever from the guy, and it's now been over a year. |

'It's a shame about IRB, I had areal tight deadline when I shipped my ecu up to him,
He even offered to drive down the evening it was done to help me out, can't get much better then that, but maybe that's why he is hard to reach ? Anyhow, it seems there are many other options that people have come along with |

We tried to use IRB in the past, he never bothered to come back to us - that was after numerous attempts at contacting him, so myself and a few mates spent our money ( many, many £1000's ) with other tuners, a strange way to run a so called business ??? |

Seems like it is hit and miss with these tuning companies.
Have you tried Dynachip? |

I'd be interested in anyone's views on Dynachip as I'm thinking of getting mine done - probably before Christmas if I can...

I can't recommend him highly enough. He has done 2 of my TD5s and they were both spot on. Plus Mike comes to you - he made a special trip to me for the second one as I was due to go on holiday and he came down from oop north to dahn sarf just for me. Try him. You won't be disappointed. 👍👍👍 |

Well since it's a td5, I would say bite the bullet and learn how to do it yourself. You will always be at the mercy of someone if you don't know what they adjusted and you can't put it back. There's plenty of info on how to do it being discussed on the internet.
I've gotten myself out of a situation where the flywheel was failing due to too much torque and I was on the start of a long trip, so I just tune down the power and turbo and away I went. Buy a spare ecu in case you brick it and it a little hit and miss as all engines are slightly different and also your driving style. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island. |

Old thread but I just wanted to say +1 for Dynachip.
Fantastic communication. I mailed Mike my ECU from Canada and have just re-installed. As for the Chip; The first time I started the truck it was as if the engine came alive compared to what it was. Unreal acceleration when required and no black smoke. I'm a very conservative driver but its nice to be able to keep up with other cars when going up a hill in 5th and being able to accelerate I would say is an added safety feature. I am extremely happy I went with Mike and Dynachip. Now to spend all that money I saved on an alisport intercooler... 1999 Defender 110 2003 P38 2007 RR SC "And that's why it needs to be celebrated, because when the Defender goes we'll have lost this pointer to where we came from, and we're really going to miss it." I’d recommend Dynachip, remapped my TD5 Defender for £250 and it’s running without fault.
Not such a good experience with Alive in Manchester, would not recommend them. Ended up £500 out of pocket after l had to get it reset at the main dealer. (£360 for the remap and £125 for Land Rover to reset it) No response at all from Alive. |

JE Engineering did my td5, really good job, very pleased with it and went back to them for future remaps/chips since.
BAS did my 110 - again very good and no complaints with the map. Alive did my soft top - really pleased with it, found them very receptive and great customer service. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |
