C42 tape deck head unit removal - Newbie!
Hi guys,

Apologies for not properly introducing myself before, but 4 days into Defender ownership (2005 110 TD5) I'm still giggling like a schoolboy looking at it.

Problem is the stereo doesn't work and so i want to switch it out...

but i can't budge the headunit... It's a single din but only has 2 holes and so the tools i'm used to don't work.

I read on another forum that you simply stick 2x2.5mm allen keys inthe holes and "pop" ... but that was garbage! Any ideas, thoughts, Censored taking, whatever you've got is welcome. Want to get this sorted this weekend!

Thanks in advance

Tom (the truck is Trevor...)

I took one out a long time ago. Seem to remember that I struggled with the holes too. In the end, I pretty much removed the whole of the double-din panel to get to the bits holding the radio in.
Sorry I can't be more specific, it was nearly 10 years ago.

Think that is what was in mine when i bought it. From memory the two holes have grub screws in which you have to slacken off (not remove) to release the radio. Once loose you should be able to pull it clear.

Allen keys are what's needed.

As Steve said, slack off the screws and it'll come out Thumbs Up

The screws push a plate out to stop the unit being removed.
