Don't have a remap or indeed a PUMA, but do follow the remap/tuning threads with interest as at some stage would like to consider one for my Td5.
What strikes me in the last week is that the poor sods at the tuning companies seem to be spending far to much time having to justify their existence and manage potential damage to their businesses rather than concentrating on what they all appear to be very good at..... I haven't yet read a post that says ' these w*nkers blew up my engine' and until such time that I do, I'm keeping an open mind. What's good for the goose etc etc ..... Can we give them all a break and let them do some work and I'm sure any issues that anyone has are best resolved directly with the folks in question. Right - rant over..... where's K9's pic of a dog shagging a duck ? Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |

I have also been reading the hard work these people are doing i just wish that the dealers had this level of knolwage of their product, which as you all know they dont, if they cant get a fault code to log on their work sheet it does not exist no fix.

have brought a tune and reader from Pete at southwest show and also a ARB diff from him on this forum, have found him to be a 100% genuine bloke that knows his products a lot better than most.
Im afraid as with any forum there are people who talk out their ar*e, the higher the number of posts the least they seem to know |

Suppliers like Pete of BAS are few and far between these days - he goes way beyond the point that most others would throw in the towel, his maps have been brilliant and customer service beyond expectation. Nobody else shares information like Pete has done!!, presumably because nobody else has the depth of knowledge that he does.... So let the man alone, because my guess is that whether you are a customer of his or not, you will more than likeley benefit from his expertise at some point or other before you hang up your Fender Boots.....

I have known Pete since early 2005, when we both bought a Rovacom Lite (Now known as Faultmate) within a couple of months of each other, and we clicked instantly on the Rovacom forums. We both had a common interest in tuning land rovers, and utilising the new technology that allowed us to flash program the Td5.
At first we shared some information, as I had recently bought a Td5 disco, and Pete owned a 200Tdi 90, so my car ended up being a bit of a test bed. We jointly developed the Td5 booster module, and if you look at Pete's installation guide for the booster, you'll notice it was fitted to a dark blue disco (mine!). I'd also produce documents and artwork for Pete, including the very banner as used on these sites! Quickly, our businesses grew, and before you know it, those late nights chatting on skype, twoing and frowing (spelling?) of information, slowed down to an occasional email or 5 minute chat on the phone. This was inevitable I suppose, as we became busy with work, and very quickly the information exchange ceased, as we'd now become competitors. Still, I have my own personal experiances with Pete, and know he shares the same basic principles as I do, which is to offer the best possible service to our customers. We now both have very well respected remap tuning companies, known for the outstanding quality of our products, and our customer service. Neither of us know exactly what each other is doing, such is the competitive nature of our business, but I am sure Pete knows how much effort I put in to get the best possible results, as I know he does. |

last summer i was talking to a land rover assist (don't ask ) and asked about tuning, he said "there is a guy in yorkshire, bell somthing? he has got a disco 2.7 V6 working in a defender! if he can do that with all the ecu's to work around he gets my vote" now i have to say that things changed and i don't have the cash to get a tune at the mo, but he WILL be the guy i will go to.

Those were the days Gary, less hastle than they are now thats for sure.
Back to the thread tho. If i were to speak, clarify or explain about some of the obvious recent events on the forum made by some, it would go a little like this. Dear Mr .......... for the record Gary and my self go back a long way which is obvious from the above post he made but you would never guess this normally and you obviousley havent. Please note that only Gary and my self know exactley what is written in the chapters of the "BAS & Alive book" and that will always be the same its our book not yours ! However. Even though just as Gary says we have slowley become competitors over the years, we are both still in business yet still have done joint projects together like the TD5 booster to help our business produce a good product which was done together and probabally would do again, We have also had many business deals and sales between each other of which normal business do on a daily basis. A couple of simple examples are, Gary a long time agao used to have a BS tuning tool that was mastered to me for a spacific business reason (of which the reason is not for public forums) this was amongst his others that were nothing to do with me at all, and then he went fully on his own which is business ! more recently Gary used to sell my EGR kits untill he produced his own which again is business, things change and i live with it And as said above i have used Gary many many times for things like, art work, banners, letter heads and photography etc etc as he is very good at what he does with it and i want a good job done so i used him. What you dont realise of which you really should start doing so a little more, is that some business no matter how far apart from each other they seem in the public eye those companys may have deep and very relevantly related connections and history. So making direct and skitty comments is making it very hard for Gary and myself here and its wrong and uncalled for. you know nothing about our history and connections beleive me.... Remember whats written in the "BAS & Alive book" is written in the book and untill you fully read that book from front to back you should not make any more comments either way as you really, really have no idea about whats in the text of the book. Just to echo Garys comment from above, we do still both share the same basic business principles, which is to offer the best possible service to our customers. Id like to think Mr......... this will be the last post i have to make on the subject of BAS & Alive and not have to justify myself, my business ethics, giveaways, ideas and knowlage to you every day and the forum will go back to what it should be, a forum where members share information, advice and get on like grown adults. Pete PS @ Gary, i still use your business card design you made for me |

Thanks Big Steve that needed to be said. I'm sure there are a few of us who have had enough reading through some peoples and moaning every time Pete post's something. I for one am grateful of the effort Pete takes with his product development, for his willingness to share with us what he is doing, and for taking the time to explain the inner workings of our vehicles.
Cheers, Tim |
