I took 2 jerrycans to Morroco in my D3. Filled them up with european diesel before we made the last crossing. Came back to mainland europe with the diesel still in the cans. Didn't need them but was good to have that peace of mind that it was there for either me or anyone else in the group. Also had 40l of water as well. Only used 20l at most. But always good to have reserve 110 D250 SE HT

Heavy, but not that heavy! The Wavian jerry cans are 4.3kg; 20 litres of diesel weighs 14.9kg, and 20 litres of petrol weighs 16.6kg. So max weight = 19.2 or 20.9 kg, depending on fuel type.


I'm pretty sure that's the other way around... diesel is more dense than petrol.

May not be necessary for our forthcoming trip to Scotland (and the NC500), but I decided to replace the two seals on my Al'Jerry Can recently...(and give it a quick polish... Cool) for a 90 this gives us approaching 50% extra range, but its the fact that you have it, that takes any anxiety away and the feeling you have to top up at every filling station.

I have only used this on a few occasions in the UK, to avoid Motorway Fuel Prices
(...I know... but my Wife's a canny Scot and I've got use to realising she's right Shocked )

Mine is strapped down to a cargo floor anchor fixing and also linked to the tubular cross brace behind the front passenger seat.

Interesting comment about travelling with Jerry Cans cross channel, I would guess, ensuring these are always empty would get round the T&C from Ferry Companies, but need to check this...(that will be us next year)

Volume (imp gall) x10xSG =lb mas
Volume (l)xSG = kg mass

Although im so glad my flying apps work that out for me now...mass when doing aircraft weight and balance is a touch more important than a car will ever be Whistle Mike
