England 2004 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Zermatt Silver
I went white water kayaking for two weeks, we camped all the time at the sides of rivers, never paid once for camping. Washing in rivers, drinking river water (with iodine) and crapping in bushes, best two weeks away with the lads.

Ale - very expensive, we took loads of vodka as space was at a premium.

Snap - again expensive, lived off spam, stag chilli and stuff like that.

Country - excellent, unspoilt and clean unlike French alps, women are stunners till they turn 40.

We went to Bergen from Newcastle on 24hr ferry which has now finished running, big shame. Aparently there is a ferry from Hull you can get with the truckers to Stavanger.

We went around the Vos and Soja regions, big waterfalls and high volume rivers.

Went in June and weather was ace, only about an hour of darkness in the evening which is stange but the vodka took care of that one!

Norway

Having been inspired (well the wife has been inspired) by the Northern Lights trip in LRO this month, is a trip up to the top of Norway feasable for end of March/early April or would there be too much snow.

What are the chances of actually seeing the Northern Lights?

When to see the northern lights
Seeing the northern lights, or the aurora borealis as they are also known as, is a jaw-dropping and mystical moment.

The lights are at their most frequent in late autumn and winter/early spring.

In the time span between autumn equinox and spring equinox (21 September - 21 March), it is dark the whole time between 6 pm and 1 am, and you have maximum chances of spotting the lights. However, the weather is also of importance, and September, October and November tend to be wet and snowless in the north.

I went there Feb 07 and must agree that it is a beautiful country. Food and water was free for us..... gotta love work, and we didn't drink much as it is expensive.

I saw the Northern Lights on my first day there after driving and recovering people for over 10 hours straight- I thought I was seeing things as it was that amazing.

One thing we learnt on the first day was about the road markers..... they aren't the edge of the road, but are about 2-3 foot off the road, so if you get close to them chances are you will soon after that find yourself at 45 degrees!

Here are a few highlights from my trip:

Driving during the winter time I would suggest studs in your tires and snow chains and a snow shovel at the ready.

Locals are REALLY friendly helpful.
