Hi guys,
In the future me and my dad are gonna try and go on a Morocco Expedition. To try and stop us wasting money on something which needs to be replaced for the trip i.e tyres, snorkel etc What would you guys recommend for the trip which is up for the job? Thanks Jack |

Depends on where exactly you go LB, and when you go. AT is good for general use, but MT is also pretty useful if you're going to be doing anything like dried lakes (ie lake iriki). Also depends on the time of year you go. If you're there when its wet, MTs are a godsend, believe me. Last time I went I had AT2s and they were fine, but it wasn't wet. You woudn't go wrong with MTs unless you want to just drive dunes all day long, then they're not ideal.
and you dont need a raised air intake to be honest. oh, and if you dont already own a roof tent, my advice would be not to buy one for the trip. if you enjoy it, then maybe then have a look, but theyre not cheap for a decent one and its a lot of money to spend for something you might only do once. If you want I can post up our gear list (basic gear, 3 week trip) |

Whilst many lists would have common items, such lists are dependent on where and when you are going. Solo vehicle or a convoy situation
There is a lot of equipment on our red 110 that I do not recommend that most people need. Nothing wrong with the equipment but for the average 3/4 week convoy trip to Morocco, it is not needed. Might be wanted, might be within peoples budget but is not necessarily needed. Remember that weight is the enemy of the overland traveller. The heavier the vehicle the more likely it is to get bogged down. Also the more strain put on the drive train and hence possibly more problems. HTH Brendan |

Carl, done. And also what Brendan said. Taking too much is the scourge of travel with a vehicle. take only what you know you ll need and no more.

Have a realistic timetable whilst there so you don't end up driving long hours each day

Mike,, While a RAI is not a must have,, and excluding deep water !! it certainly helps with the dust !!
Last year, we were 2 110 Puma Defender 110's,, one with, and one without,, The one with only need to clean the air filter out 2 maybe 3 time, even then did not really need it,, whereas the one without, needed to be done daily really, certainly on the heavier dusted tracks Did i mention the dust !!! gets everywhere As been said,, you don't need the kitchen sink and all, we say it each time, and we still take to much stuff, But then, of all the trips, Lost one fuel cap, half shaft dust cover ( condoms work well,, don't ask !!! ) One UJ, and a fan belt,, (all on TDi, TD5 !!) so we so go fairly well prepared California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

In dusty situations a few minutes spent knocking dust out of air filter each day is time well spent.
If you have a RAI and are going into dusty environment you can get a prefilter to sit on top of snorkel. Another possibility is a pre filter sock. Other means include turning inlet around or placing a stocking over it Brendan |
