1994 Defender 90 200 Tdi HT Montalcino Red

Heater plug relay

Retro fitting a Heater plug relay for a 200tdi engine in a 2,5 turbo loom

I can get it to power up but not shut off what am I doing wrong ? Yes I know 200tdi will start without heater plugs but it would be nice to have as per factory

It should shut off on its own after 5 or 10 seconds. IIRC it's triggered by the ignition powering up (position 2) but I think there's also a feed from the starter solenoid, so if you turn the ign to pos2 but don't actually start the engine (like if you want to wipe your windows as the wipers don't work on pos1

) then when you crank the starter the glowplugs will heat up again...

so maybe you've got that one mixed up somewhere?

Sorted it I could not see the wood for the trees !
Found the 4 pin switch on the loom connected the wires as per colour code and all's good.
