I'd go for a compressor type. Had a Waeco CFX installed in my previous 130 without an auxiliary battery. Never ran into problems.

Definitely compressor type. Absorption types could get damaged if not being level http://www.doityourselfrv.com/know-rig-lev...properly/# Very satisfied with Engel. Our 45 liter sits where the second row left seat used to be.

if you buy a cooler now you will only by a better fridge in the future
any of the big brands are good were running a waeco 45 ltr size.great little fridge easy on the battery and doubles as a beer fridge at home if needed. |

I had a cooler before but it was cheap and fell apart. It did work reasonably well for a couple of years though (well no one got food poisining).
I am pretty much set on a proper fridge this time and have sent Brendan a text to kick of a conversation about obtaining one. Just got to hope I can make the budget stretch far enough. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

Brendan is off on a trip to Sweden at the moment leaving me in charge. You probably won't get much in the way of a sensible answer from me.
We brought back a little Dometic one from Germany for the white 90. We looked at a lot of fridges when we were out there and I liked the Dometic ones on a practical level and how they would work. He will no doubt have some gems of wisdom if he gets internet access. Regards Barbara |

Thanks for the update Barbara, I spoke to the chap (I forget his name right now) Brendan is travelling with on the phone who was suggesting the ARB models.

Dometic cabinet fridges like used in motorhomes/campervans are not great in serious heat, thats both absorption and compressor. I would stick to chest type if heading where hot.

I am not planning on heading anywhere too hot (Norway in winter appeals more than Spain in Summer).
In the end my hands got tied on the budget by SWMBO and the ARB was deemed to be too expensive. I've plumped for the Mobicool fr40 which in recent trials has performed well on 240v and 12v. It's ability to freeze is a bit slow but as I want a fridge that is fine. It slots nicely onto a custom made board and straps to the 2nd row middle seat frame for security. Thankfully I have an aux socket under the second row as the lead it comes with is not long enough to get to any others. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.
