I put this gallery up in Oct 2011 just after the DC100 was shown as a concept. Can you remember how you felt back then? Its been over 6 years so I was wondering how you all feel now? have you grown to like it or accept it or do you still hate it?
I know that these two pics are the concept but it gives you an idea. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge 130's have feeling's as well you know |

I like it as a car but not as a replacement for what I currently have. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response

Good thread, Andrew
I disiliked it back then, but now think it is very close to the mark! Two relatively minor criticisms of the then shown concept. I felt that the front facia (grille, headlamps) should be a little closer to upright. The angled front gives it a touch too much VW/Skoda Yeti. Upright would look more "tool-like" and functional, without losing any of the modern design character. And the seating position was too low in relation to bonnet and windscreen. One of the wonderful and eccentric things about the old Defender is its commanding view down over the front. It affects how you feel when driving the vehicle. Something that was carried over into the Range Rover and Discovery. I donīt want to sit sportscar low in a Defender. The dash should be shorter and more upright than a normal passenger car, and the seating higher. My guess is that the seating position will now be up there, like the Range Rover 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

I need a none of the above option.
The side treatments are fine. Front and rear have serious issues and need rethinking. Wheels are ridiculous It misses how it will be a Utility vehicle. 1995 Defender 110 CSW 1971 SIIA Lightweight |

Much as JJ said, I like that now and I liked it when it first previewed, but whether I'd consider it as a like for like replacement with my defender is another question.
Did they ever do a LWB mock up? I know the purists weren't keen, but eventually it has to evolve or die. The Jaguar purists hated the idea of a diesel FWD estate. Without the X-type I reckon the Jaguar brand would be another in the long list of once great, but now deceased British motor manufacturers 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

Address the front and (lower) rear end and I'd buy one. I like the angular windows / roof line on side profile a lot!

It's definitely grown on me. I wasn't very keen when it first appeared, but I actually quite like it now. There are still aspects that I don't really like, but I think the general concept is pretty good. I think I'd tend to agree with others that I don't really see it as a Defender replacement, more like a new totally different LR model, but I doubt that I would see anything as a Defender replacement. If whatever comes to market in the end is along the lines of the DC100 concept, I'd probably be quite interested. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

It still looks like a Skoda Yeti. I'm sure it'd be a great car but it's not a Defender. Darren

100% agree with JJ.
Could be a nice car but I will not feel confortable in put it in, for example, the Patagonian roads or the northern desert. Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

It's ok but a bit Skoda. It's better than the new Disco and could work as its replacement. But as it is it's still not really a 'Defender' (as many have noted).
I dislike how some say things have to develop. That's not my issue there are many things in the Defender that I wish were better. But I'd like something that continues with what made me like the Defender so much (and what many still cherish, even today). What could be interesting as a challenge: if an engineer were to create a new Defender, based on the goals of the car, what would it look like without any input from a designer? I mean that's basically how the original Land Rover was created... |
