Stainless Steel Hinges or Ally?
Noted on the front doors of the defender that the hinges have some play so I will be looking to replace them. But is it worth the extra money to buy Stainless ones?

I'm not too sure if they will just look tacky being shiny and all that. So I guess it's possible to paint them to match the LR green.

How much play would you expect? Should there be some or none?

“… is it worth the extra money to buy stainless ones?”

How much are stainless ones? How much are standard ones? If you’ll need to replace even three or four OEM ones throughout the life of the vehicle, do the maths.

Stainless or standard, either will need five minutes work with a spray can…

Stainless (YRM)
£183.33 for the 4 hinges needed for the front.

Britpart (Paddocks)
£45.97 for 4 hinges and bolts etc.

There is a good price difference but do the SS ones last 4 times longer than Britpart ones. I wouldn't buy them for Bling as I would no dobut paint them as it won't suit the vehicle.

5mins? Censored . Unless done properly the paint chips off pretty sharpish...

The BP hinges are actually not bad at all, as long as they are properly prepped and painted they should last a fair while. At the end of the day it depeneds how long you are going to keep the landy...

See http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52994.html

Some Britpart hinges may be OK but the pair that I tried had more play than those which I'm wanting to replace. I suspect that this is down to poor manufacturing tolerances so given a big box of Britpart hinges you might be able to find a good pair. They don't look the same as OE though.

I've been waiting 6 months for these to come back into stock. They now don't know when they will get any more Sad

So it looks like I'll be refitting genuine LR parts.

Not sure about 'definitive' Confused

I've recently replaced the drivers door hinges on mine as they were completely shot after 25 years. I used some new take-off ones, which are better made than '92 the originals, so I've no reason to think they won't last a similar amount of time if maintained properly. Darren

Got these stainless ones from ox4x4. I can't fault them. (I think they're the ones YRM sell)
