1995 Defender 110 300 Tdi CSW Epsom Green

300Tdi Head Gasket

Good morning defender land,

I need a bit of advice.

I have a strange tshh noise coming from the engine. It doesn't appear to be the exhaust manifold gasket like last time although similar.
Having had a look around the engine block has a coating of oil below the head gasket line so I'm thinking it is new head gasket time.

Is the Haynes workshop manual ok to follow regarding changing the head gasket or should I be doing things differently?

I did it as per the Haynes manual and was fine although for the most part you can sort of see what bits need to come off to get the head off. The Haynes helps with what order to do things in.

IIRC it says to remove the exhaust manifold and turbo at the downpipe, I found this wasn't necessary and could easily push it out of the way enough to get the head off.

Otherwise it should be a fairly straightforward job unless you get some particularly nasty bolts on the manifolds

I'd check all turbo hoses and intercooler 1st before taking the head off
