Turbo cleaner - Turbo Overboost
I have a 2005 VW T5 2.4TDI which has started to go in to limp mod under acceleration sometimes only light acceleration in 6th gear on motorways which can be very annoying trying to pull over to stop/start the engine to continue the journey. All its showing when plugged in is 'turbo overboost' which can be a result of a dirty turbo? I properly need a new turbo but might be worth trying a turbo cleaner has anybody on here used one and if so which one?

A small local garage plugged a fault code reader and came up with the 'overboost' fault cod but I'm thinking I should try and get a more in depth diagnostic any suggestions what sort of diagnostic I should be looking for? 2010 Defender 90 HT

I tried a turbo cleaner on a turbo at work off the engine, it smelled very much like oven cleaner and to be fair cleaned the crap off the turbo quite well, not sure I would want to do it with the turbo fitted as the crap would then have to go through the cooler and the engine. I'm sure there will be others along soon whom have more experience with it than me. the one I used was a Wynns aerosol DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Our old Passat tdi used to do this, I was shown to do the on/off on the fly as it were, ignition off then on again, slip the clutch and ' bump start' at 50, weird but worked. Our turbo was worn on the shaft, you could feel the play and at certain revs the vibration would put it out of the ecu safe perimeters. You can rebuild these with cheap rebuild kits, a mechanic buddy has done many of them. Our Passat was on 222, 228 miles when it started to happen!!

I dont know the engine, but I had a 1.8t that used to do the same. This was a std style waste gate, and the problem was a seized waste gate, I dont know if yours is a variable vane though 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)
